Position Details
The Wesleyan Investments Office is charged with the day-to-day management of Wesleyan’s $1.6 billion endowment. The primary objective of the endowment is to provide enduring support for the academic mission of the University by releasing a sustainable and reliable flow of funds to the operating budget, thereby enhancing Wesleyan’s long-term financial stability and supporting excellence in programs, personnel, and facilities.

Reporting to the Director, Operations and Investments, the Investment Operations Associate will be a member of a small investment team.
This position will be responsible for a full range of investment performance and reporting needs of a multi-asset class portfolio.
This individual will represent the University effectively while interacting with global investment managers and service providers.
Responsibilities include:

Investment Reporting
  • Reconcile transactions and valuations with investment managers and third party administrators.
  • Compute and interpret performance, risk, and exposure metrics for multiple asset classes.
  • Produce performance reports for use in investment decisions and communicating to key stakeholders.
  • Forecast and monitor cash flows for an active portfolio of alternative investments.
  • Establish strong relationships with service providers to communicate directives and feedback.
Document Storage
  • Monitor shared email inbox for notices of cash flows, valuations, portfolio updates, financial statements, tax reports, deal summaries, and legal documents.
  • Review all documents and evaluate next steps: archive, action, or escalation.
  • Maintain electronic document management system to properly categorize and file documents.
Audit & Tax
  • Work closely with external auditors and internal departments to provide requested information and documents.
Special Projects
  • Track quantitative and qualitative data fields for use in monitoring and underwriting new and existing investments.
  • Develop and maintain custom reports, models, and software packages.
  • Engage with investment managers and fund administrators on subscription and anti‐money laundering documentation.
  • Other projects as required.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of experience with financial services or investment operations or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Demonstrated understanding of key investment accounting concepts. Advance proficiency with Excel (experience with complex spreadsheets, writing formulas, use of pivot tables and VLOOKUP , and other similar skills). Demonstrated expertise in proactively identifying, researching, and resolving issues in large data sets. Ability to evaluate and improve processes and systems. Effective communication and collaboration skills. Strong numerical skills. Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. Enthusiasm about being part of the Wesleyan community and contributing to the University’s academic mission. Adherence to a strict code of ethics and conflict of interest policy.
Preferred Qualifications
5 years of investment operations experience at a global fund administrator, endowment, or foundation. Familiarity with investment software including Bloomberg, Morningstar Direct, Caissa, and Advent Tamale.
