About the Opportunity:
The D'Amore-McKim School of Business is seeking a Co-op Coordinator to work with our undergraduate student population. This position is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position. You will join a team of 27 highly motivated, professional, collaborative individuals who provide an outstanding cooperative education program to business students.

Responsibilities:

Education of Students: The Co-op Coordinator educates students through their career development. They educate, advise, and coach students, developing and delivering effective teaching and coaching programs that enable students to be successful in today's global business environment. This includes, but is not limited to, working with students one-on-one, in workshops and in the classroom.

The Co-op Coordinator teaches a career education course each semester, and coaches students through group and individual meetings. Classroom preparation includes teaching interviewing skills, professional behavior and communication, workplace ethics, and as well as leadership skills and self-awareness and emotional intelligence development.

The Co-op Coordinator also maintains contact with students while engaged in their co-op experience and works with students through their post-co-op reflection.

Integrated Learning: Cooperative education is an integral part of the academic experience at Northeastern and our philosophy is that learning in the classroom is enriched by practical experience, and practical experience enriches classroom learning. The Coordinator collaborates with academic faculty, administration, and the co-op community to guide students in the integration of their co-op and academic experiences. The Co-op Coordinator shares knowledge of industry with academic faculty to integrate employment-based learning with curriculum-based learning.

Employer Relations/Job Development: The Co-op Coordinator develops new partnerships and expands current employer programs by engaging with managers, human resources contacts, and alumni. They engage in lifelong learning to develop and maintain a current understanding of the industry, employers, and positions. Activities to support this endeavor include site visits to new and existing employers, outreach to potential new co-op employer partners, and active participation in relevant professional organizations. High-level customer-orientation, strong presentation skills, and experience in building and maintaining client relationships is essential. Prior professional experience in industry is preferred.

Service: The Co-op Coordinator also engages in service to the Cooperative Education department, D'Amore-McKim School of Business, and to Northeastern University. Service includes making presentations to prospective students and newly admitted students; participation on committees and task forces; and serving as an advisor to student organizations.

Qualifications:
  • A master's degree in college student development, counseling, education, psychology or a business-related field, is required by the appointment start date, as well as a minimum of three years of professional work experience.

  • Experience as a career coach, certification preferable, but not required.

  • Teaching experience in a classroom environment.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and comfort presenting to diverse audiences.

  • Experience working with a diverse staff and/or student population and a demonstrated commitment to achieving and maintaining diversity in the workplace.

  • Proficiency in computer/technology and database maintenance, and strong organizational skills.

  • Knowledge and appreciation of cooperative education and/or experiential learning and its impact on an individual's career development.

  • Ability to effectively engage a diverse network of global stakeholders, across time zones.


    Preferred Qualifications:

  • An academic degree in a related business profession, or experience in career development and counseling of business students.

  • Knowledge of cooperative education and/or experiential learning.

  • Experience working with an international student population.
