Position Summary:
Job Summary
The Director of Residence Life will report directly to the Vice President for Student Life & Dean of Students and provide overall vision, leadership, and administrative direction to the residential experience for students including residence life, housing, student conduct and behavioral intervention. The Director is responsible for administering all aspects of the residence life program including housing operations, community development, crisis response, planning and assessment, budget management, and annual reports. The Director is an active member of the student life leadership team, providing strategic planning and leadership to the division and manages and participates in the on-call system in collaboration with campus safety, the counseling center, and student health center. This position is required to live on campus and the housing provided is a four-bedroom house.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Serve as the chief housing officer with responsibilities that include coordinating all housing processes; maximizing and managing residential population; and facilitate data management.
  • Manage a departmental staff that includes an associate director of residence life, two area coordinators, community standards specialist, administrative assistant, and student staff including senior community assistants, residence assistants, and operational assistants.
  • Work directly with the residential experience team to coordinate all processes for housing and conduct; manage residential population and facilities; and facilitate data management for residence life.
  • Develop a residential community, partnering with faculty to advance student learning and support the university's academic mission.
  • Maintain a visible presence within the department and division and provide a frequent presence in all residential communities.
  • Manage the annual renewal of the student handbook, the code of student conduct, residence life documents and other policies.
  • Serve as a key member of the CARE Team (behavioral intervention), providing wellness checks and case management type of assistance to students of concern.
  • Collaborate with the Crisis Management Team in training and preparation of staff in emergency preparation and crisis management, providing leadership in times of individual student crisis situations and larger campus crisis moments.
  • Oversee afterhours on-call professional staff and student operational assistance, providing on-call assistance as needed; work directly with the department of campus safety, counseling center, health center, and facilities on appropriate follow-up.
  • Live on campus and participate in the on-call duty rotation.


    Required Qualifications:
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    Demonstrated ability in developing, leading, and assessing culturally inclusive residential programs with focus on living and learning communities; sophistication with recruiting, educating, and managing all levels of professional and student employees; experience working collaboratively on strategies for the development of student well-being including student conduct responses, prevention programming, and Title IX.; skilled at crisis and emergency planning, management, and response; demonstrated experience with housing assignment, occupancy management and other processes; strong technical skills and knowledge of data-base management systems; excellent interpersonal, communication, and public relations skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with multiple audiences; experience in assessment including developing learning outcomes and using data to evaluate and adjust programmatic functions or services

    Education
    Master’s degree in college student personnel, higher education administration, or related field required.

    Experience
    Five years of progressive and transformative leadership experience in residence life, student conduct, housing operations or similar fields required.

    Physical Demand
    Position requires the ability to move about the campus, sometimes frequently throughout the work day. Position requires the ability to give and to receive instruction. Position requires the ability to communicate synchronously in person and by phone and asynchronously via email and other electronic means. Position requires the ability to read printed and handwritten text on paper and computer monitors. Working conditions are primarily indoor. This position requires occasional night and weekend hours.
