About the Opportunity:
The Global Experience Office (GEO) is a central office of global education at Northeastern University, committed to ensuring that every Northeastern student has an opportunity to engage in intellectually challenging and culturally enriching experiences throughout the world. To achieve this, GEO partners with Northeastern colleges and units to integrate meaningful global experiences into their curricula and to enhance their capacity through global mobility. Northeastern's signature programs, including Dialogues of Civilizations, Global Quest, The Program, and Semester-In, are carefully designed to reflect the Northeastern University (NU) global mission, complement students' on-campus studies, deepen students' knowledge of the world and their chosen field of study, and help students develop intercultural and political sensitivity, utilize and strengthen foreign language skills, explore global career options, and grow as individuals. Through these programs, GEO facilitates global experiences for over 3,800 NU students and 200 additional foreign incoming students.

With supervision from the Director of Program Development, the Assistant Director of Program Development will be responsible for the 360 development of GEO programs of all types in an assigned portfolio of programs, including, but not limited to: signature cohort-based programs for first-year students (, Global Quest, Global Engagement Program), faculty-led programs (Dialogues of Civilizations and others), exchange and study abroad programs, research, alumni programs, faculty programs, etc.). The AD-PD articulates program goals, alongside GEO Advising and Academic Integration teams and in collaboration with faculty, departments and colleges, ensures that program curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular goals are reflected in the design. The AD-PD works with GEO Program Management team to ensure that the programs' design supports enrollment targets for first-year programs. The AD-PD develops program budgets and ensures they comply with guidelines from the Chancellor's Office Finance and Operations. The AD-PD negotiates the scope of services with vendors and articles of agreements with partners; works with the Contract Specialist to formalize the agreements. AD-PD gathers information and materials required for hiring program faculty and staff, while working closely with the Office of the Chancellor's HR partner in charge of the hiring process. AD-PD manages and tracks changes and adjustments to programs, and ensures that the most up-to-date information is easily accessible to all relevant constituents and is uploaded into the travel registry. AD-PD participates in analyzing program evaluations and conducting periodic program reviews, and provides recommendations for program improvements.

The Assistant Director of Program Development will develop and cultivate relationships with university partners, program providers, and onsite vendors in the assigned portfolio; research, evaluate, and engage with new partners and vendors to fill the academic, programmatic, and student support needs. The AD-PD will assemble information on partners' administrative processes and academic requirements, and will catalogue such information in a comprehensive knowledge base of GEO preferred vendors/partners.

This position is expected to travel to conduct periodic site visits and to attend, facilitate, and/or present at meetings or conferences domestically and internationally.

AD-PDs play an important role in GEO regional “pods” - teams of advisors, program designers, and program managers who collaborate to ensure quality of programming and continuity of services to GEO's key audiences.

  • Master's degree plus 2+ years of academic administrative experience required; or Bachelor's plus 4-6 years of academic administrative experience required.
  • 2+ years of program development experience.
  • Previous experience studying abroad at the undergraduate level or time living abroad.
  • Demonstrated commitment to international education and the promotion of cross-cultural
  • Understanding of NAFSA (Association of International educators), professional ethics and
  • Familiarity with international political, social, and cultural issues as they pertain to education abroad, international travel, and international service.
  • Knowledge of principles and issues of program development, including the ability to advise faculty,
    administrators, and Deans who wish to lead or create programming.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to positively engage people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Excellent problem-solving and strong analytical skills with proven ability to strategize, prioritize, and
    multi-task to meet goals and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, sufficient to inspire others and work effectively and collaboratively with
    students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other stakeholders. This includes professionalism and collegiality in a team environment, excellent judgment, discretion, and the ability to make decisions in a timely
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including intercultural and interpersonal communication.
  • The ability to interact with global program representatives, faculty, and students in a highly professional manner with an understanding of protocol and confidentiality. Must effectively represent the University to outside institutions and universities.
  • Strong organizational, project management, administrative, and computer skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office software required. Familiarity with Salesforce, Terra
    Dotta, and student record systems (e.g., Banner) preferred.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
