Postdoctoral Research Associate

About Northeastern:
Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and a world leader in experiential learning. The same commitment to connecting with the world drives our use-inspired research enterprise. The university offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate programs leading to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Our campuses in Charlotte, N.C., San Francisco, Seattle, and Toronto are regional platforms for undergraduate and graduate learning and collaborative research. Northeastern pursues advanced research in security and materials at the Innovation Campus in Burlington, Massachusetts, and in coastal sustainability at the Marine Science Center in Nahant, Massachusetts.

About the Opportunity:
An opportunity is available for a highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral research associate to join an appointment in the Ivanov laboratory at the Barnett Institute of Chemical and Biological Analysis and the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology to perform research using and developing analytical techniques for proteomics profiling based on separation coupled to mass spectrometry.

Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of the postdoc is to perform basic or applied research of a limited scope, primarily using existing theories and methods, ensuring that the research is complete. Performs basic and applied research on critical or difficult problems involving the development of new analytical methodologies based on new modalities of separation coupled to mass spectrometry. Provides significant expertise in analytical chemistry, separations, mass spectrometry and sample preparation. The candidate will assist the supervisor in the interpretation and publication of results, developing grant applications, maintaining the laboratory and may exercise functional supervision over students and supporting staff. The appointment is for two years and may be extended for an additional 1-2 years, depending on continuation of funding and regular progress evaluation.

Qualifications:
This position will require the development of Nano LC-MS-or/and CE (capillary electrophoresis)-MS-based ultra-sensitive proteomic technologies for deep characterization of limited availability clinical and biological samples (e.g., rare cells in blood, extracellular microvesicles); quantitative profiling of post-translational modifications and elucidation of molecular mechanisms of biological phenomena. The successful candidate will be actively involved in interdisciplinary research within the laboratories of the Barnett Institute and the biomedical/biotech community in the Boston area.

Preferred Qualifications:
Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in chemistry, biochemistry or related discipline with experience in micro- and nano-scale liquid phase separation, proteomic technologies, mass spectrometry, bioinformatics, and protein chemistry. The successful applicant must be able to undertake substantially full-time research or scholarship; work under the supervision of a senior scholar.

Salary Grade:
10

How to Apply:
Applications should contain a cover letter briefly describing candidate's background and specific research interests, a full CV with a publication list, Ph.D. completion date, and the names and contact information for three references who might be contacted for recommendations. Review of applications will begin immediately.

Additional Information:
Northeastern University is an equal opportunity employer, seeking to recruit and support a broadly diverse community of faculty and staff. Northeastern values and celebrates diversity in all its forms and strives to foster an inclusive culture built on respect that affirms inter-group relations and builds cohesion.
