We are launching a pioneering research and innovation hub in AI—one that will shape the way humans and machines collaborate. Led by Dr. Usama Fayyad, the Institute for Experiential AI (IEAI) is built around the challenges and opportunities made possible by human-machine collaboration. The institute provides a framework to design, implement, and scale AI-driven technologies in ways that make a true difference to society. Summary:
The Institute of Experiential AI at Northeastern University is looking for an ambitious, performance oriented individual to manage projects in its leading-edge AI Solutions Factory, for AI/Data Science solution development over real-world problems.

Mirroring the expertise of Northeastern's academic units, focus areas for the Factory encompass life sciences; finance; data/computer science; cybersecurity and ethical/responsible AI among others. Within the factory, the Institute will also deliver practicum courses for NU and external learners and will provide a hands-on experience to students through an apprenticeship program. Our goal is to offer a “consulting service” to companies and organizations that is oriented around cohorts as an immersive “residency” type experience. Projects will typically be delivered by staff data scientists and data engineers at the Institute, supported by experts, postdocs, and faculty as necessary.

The Project Manager is responsible for helping organization leverage data, working with the team of data scientists and engineers to provide valuable direction and insight, for clients/partners to make AI-enabled decisions.

The PM works together with units across the client organization to identify opportunities for innovation and business improvement by applying AI tools and techniques, provide strategic direction, solve focused analytical problems; develop a data strategy and own the end-to-end execution of data science/AI projects. They are also responsible for providing direction, mentorship and guidance to a team of data scientists and engineers as well as practicum course learners, support their professional and technical development, as well as to foster continuous improvement of the team's performance. The PM monitors and manages project baseline to ensure activities are occurring as planned - scope, budget and schedule - manages variances. They proactively identify risks and issues on projects and uses project management tools for tracking and reporting.

The successful candidate must think and act quickly in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and representing The Institute of Experiential AI at the highest level.

Qualifications:
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Operations Research, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or Engineering, or in a related field, Master's degree is preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in Data Science or related fields, preferably in a consulting environment. Comprehensive knowledge of modern data science tools and techniques, including Python and associated data science ecosystem. Candidates for the position must also have broad knowledge and understanding of advanced statistical, machine learning, and/or data mining techniques
  • Advanced quantitative and statistical analysis skills to solve business problems and provide practical business insight using data and a quantitative/scientific approach
  • Ability to develop and manage complex projects, leading an interdisciplinary team to achieve project goals, and provide mentorship and guidance for the efficient and technical development of the members of the team
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to relate with and supervise teams, as well as to communicate technical content and analytical insights/complex findings in a clear and concise manner to multiple audiences, including senior management.
  • Experience in higher education is not required.
  • Ability to learn and understand current, and future trends, tools and techniques in the rapidly emerging AI/ML space.

    Salary Grade:
    Salary commensurate with experience.
