Key Position Information:
  • Applicant must teach in areas of biotechnology, anatomy/physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and special consideration given to candidates with documented college teaching experience.
  • Applicant must show proven ability to effectively teach college-level laboratories.
  • The preferred requirements for the position are a Ph.D. degree, evidence of scholarly output, and excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Applicant must demonstrate commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment. Candidates who can contribute to this goal are encouraged to apply; the search committee expects candidates to identify their strengths and experiences in this area.

Preferred qualifications:
  • The curriculum emphasizes active learning and practical application sessions. Experience with case-based, team-based, and self-directed active learning methodology is highly desirable.
  • Prefer applicants with: (1) familiarity with current biotechnology practices, (2) the ability to develop lab activities that enhance and expand classroom instruction, (3) teaching experience and (4) a passion for student learning.

Expectations:
  • Full time permanent position teaching a 15-15-0 contract in the Fall and Spring.
  • Although flexible, the expected start date for the position is August 2021.
  • The successful candidate will also be expected to develop sustainable independent student research projects.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to provide annual reports for biotechnology focused programs.
  • The applicant must oversee development of biotechnology courses and curriculum changes.

Position Summary:
A faculty member at SPC has the primary function of instruction, coaching and student development. Secondary functions include assisting the college in developing and maintaining a quality program of instruction, providing service to the college and continuing professional development.

Requirements::
Education:

Master's degree or applicable college degree in related academic discipline. Doctorate degree preferred.

Experience:

Teaching experience preferred. Related work experience preferred for technical programs.

  • Instructs students in accordance with college policies, procedures and approved curricula
  • Uses out-of-class duty hours effectively for class preparation, assisting students and participating in department/college activities
  • Serves the college through any of the following: (a) committee membership, (b) curriculum development, (c) development of innovative instruction, (d) sponsorship of student organizations, (e) representation of the college in professionally related community activities, and (f) special projects
  • Supports college extracurricular functions
  • Maintains currency in teaching field(s) through professional development and scholarly activities
  • Demonstrates a professional, cooperative and considerate attitude toward students, colleagues and staff
  • Performs related duties as required
