Key Position Information:
The program director must have the following
  • Credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
  • Proficiency in instructional methodology, curriculum design, and program planning.
  • Organization and administration skills for the general program of study
  • Leadership skills to conduct ongoing review and development of general effectives of the program
  • Skills and knowledge to maintain programmatic accreditation
  • Ability for fiscal management of the program
  • Leadership skills to supervise and evaluate faculty members


Position Summary:
Typical Essential Duties
  • Teaches a minimum of one course annually as part of base contract or supplemental contract;
  • Assists students in program planning, course selection, and career occupational guidance;
  • Works with all phases of College (bookstore, business office, etc.) in connection with course scheduling and registration.

This is the third of three levels in the Academic Program series. The classification is responsible for performing professional and/or program management duties in academic related specialties in a single department or function. Incumbents will manage the daily activities, develop plans to approach projects, implement solutions, and perform professional level work in assigned area. Incumbents are responsible for supervising employees or student workers, and developing and monitoring a budget.


Requirements::
Education:

Bachelor's degree in a related field to assigned area, Master's degree preferred. Must be able to be credentialed in one of the areas he/she supervises.

Experience:

Five (5) years in either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past ten years.

Experience in teaching as an educator in surgical technology

* An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.

  • Using a computer and related software applications;
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction.

Physical:
  • Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Potential Frequency
1.
Manages staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.

Prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations, submits justifications for budget items, and monitors and controls expenditures.
Daily - 10%

3.
Manages the implementation of internal operations for an assigned academic department or program, which includes: planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating programs, projects, processes, procedures, systems, standards, and/or service offerings; ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws, regulations, codes, and/or standards; coordinating activities between multiple service areas; and working to integrate and coordinate service areas.
Daily - 40%

4.
Prepares, reviews, and interprets a variety of applications, agreements, forms, records, needs assessments, business correspondence, and reports; makes recommendations based on findings.
Daily - 20%

5.
Responds to requests for information from faculty, staff, students, outside agencies, and community regarding academic or operational programs in assigned area of responsibility; researches and resolves issues, complaints, and/or other related problems; provides information to students as necessary.
Daily - 10%

6.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
