Responsible for the daily evening oversight of the Journalism Production Center. The facility is deeply tied to the Journalism curriculum, the JPC team provides equipment and training for students to develop the skills needed to report the news in a rapidly changing world.

Your Department

The Journalism Production Center includes a TV studio and control room, newsroom, Evolving Media Suite, edit suites, and additional support spaces. It is managed by the Media Technologies and Production department (MTP). The facility is deeply tied to the Journalism curriculum, the Journalism Production Center provides equipment and training for students to develop the skills needed to report the news in a rapidly changing world. Your department sits within the Production Facilities, key areas where students learn the real-life skills of the communications industry.

You Report To: Manager, Journalism Production Center

Student Workers: Fifteen (15)

Your Partners: Media Technologies and Production departments, Equipment Distribution Center, IT Lab Support

Hours: 1:45pm - 10pm Monday - Friday

Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the daily evenings, 2pm -10pm, of the Journalism Production Center, ensuring high quality of user services.
  • Assist, support, and troubleshoot student and faculty use of the Journalism Center's editing systems, control room and studio.
  • Train faculty, students, and classes in the operation of Journalism Production Center's technical equipment and software.
  • Supervise and train approximately 15 part-time student employees each semester.
  • Assist the Manager with schedules of the Journalism Production Center including academic course use, outside student use and reservations of the evolving media suite.
  • Administer and Manage the mass storage video server for Journalism curriculum.
  • Coordinate equipment repairs and installations with Manager.
  • Coordinate computer repairs and software updates with IT.
  • Manage field equipment and edit suite reservations for Journalism students.
  • Support the Manager, JPC in researching facility upgrades and in planning/installing new equipment
  • Perform base-level maintenance and repairs


Your Other Responsibilities:
  • Stay current with technology trends of media production equipment by attending local vendor presentations and demonstrations, industry conference wrap-ups, on-site vendor demonstrations and reading industry literature
  • Support department with special productions and projects that use the Center's facility or other college events.
  • Collaborate with Journalism faculty in implementing new technologies and methods and encouraging their use among students.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Your Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of broadcast news production or television facility operations management or at least 2 years experience with Ross Overdrive or similar automation system
  • Familiarity with control room systems, including video servers, audio board, switcher and intercom
  • Control room automation for news production
  • Video acquisition and editing
  • Knowledge of Media Asset Management
  • General understanding of video/computer equipment
  • Basic understanding of computer networking
  • Maintenance/repair skills
  • Strong knowledge of audio/video system setup and base level engineering.


You'll be preferred if...
  • Bachelor's Degree in Video/Television Production, Broadcast Journalism, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Ross Inception, ENPS, or other newsroom computer system.
  • Final Cut Pro X , Premiere Pro CC
  • Control Room Automation for news, preferably Ross Overdrive,
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Xpression Graphics


Grade of Position: A15N

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25

Hiring Range: $51,100.00 - $53,600.00

This position will be exclusively represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 888 for purposes of wages, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
