Assist the development, monitoring, and promotion of Emerson College's overall efforts and actions to provide full and equal access to curricula, facilities, events, and services for all students with disabilities.
Looking for individuals to manage a specified caseload and share designated responsibilities with the Student Accessibility Services team.
Your Manager: Director for Student Accessibility Services
Your Team: Student Accessibility Services (SAS) which contains two other Assistant Directors who also report to the Director also
Your Partners: many areas of the College including many folks within IT, Academic Affairs, and Campus Life
Your Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload that includes academic accommodations related
to online graduate programs, as well as supporting students in
undergraduate programs, including academic and housing
accommodations.
- Conduct Q&A with prospective, accepted, and continuing
students and families.
- Communicate complex information about policies, procedures, and
expectations.
- Send, receive and file: forms, medical records, and other types
of documentation. Review documentation, conduct intake interview,s
and determine accommodations.
- Communicate with the team, academic Chairs and/or faculty for
determinations of reasonable accommodations.
- Maintain timely, confidential/detailed case notes and files of
all interactions with students and other stakeholders.
- Communicate with students to explain processes, policies and
resources. Manage difficult conversations related to denial of
accommodation requests.
- Coordinate accommodations: arrange note-taker and describer
support; collaborate with IT, research electronic texts,
communicate with faculty, tour classrooms, etc.
- Administer referrals and other services in conjunction with
WARC, Counseling, Student Care and Support, Advising, Health and
Wellness, Career Development Center, OHRL, IT, Facilities, Public
Safety.
- Manage accommodations process; meet with students to review the
applicable correspondence.
- Develop strategies to support students throughout the process;
set up access to College resources for students as
needed.
- Share with the Associate Director duties which may extend
beyond the designated caseload or be within the
caseload.
- Respond to requests for data and information from Student
Affairs, Admissions and other stakeholders.
- Prepare periodic and impromptu reports on caseload, services
provided, etc.
- Determine and manage the process for putting data into the case
management system; perform regular file maintenance.
- Monitor and suggest revisions to Policy and Procedures
documents and web pages through research, collaboration, and
preparing material for launch/update.
- Make budgetary projections regarding adaptive technologies and
accommodations services.
- Research and update information on assistive technology
accommodations and equipment, including knowledge of best
practices, ability to use and demonstrate their features, and
collaborations with other units.
Other responsibilities
- Assist with office administration such as taking phone calls
and email messages as needed
- Respond to students, faculty, parents, and other units on
campus as needed.
- Provide backup coverage when other team members are out of the
office.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Your Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a higher-ed or
professional setting
- 3-5 years working with a broad array of individuals with
disabilities
- Ability to work and manage time/task independently
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in related field
- Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding disability access
and compliance
- Clear and precise oral/written communication skills
- Facility with computers and adaptability in learning new
technologies
- Ability to effectively contribute to team processes
