SEARCH FOR THE DEAN

Drew Theological School

Drew University
Madison, New Jersey

Drew University (Drew), a United Methodist Church (UMC) affiliated private liberal arts institution located in Madison, New Jersey, seeks a dynamic, creative, and transformational leader to serve as the next Dean of the Drew Theological School. Rooted in the Methodist tradition of innovative and bold interpretations of Christian theology and Christian practices, the Drew Theological School empowers creative thought and courageous action to advance justice, peace, and love of God, neighbor, and the earth. Among the most distinguished and influential denominational seminaries related to the United Methodist Church today, Drew Theological School is well-known for its intellectual vitality, theological vision, and creativity. As an embedded, university-based theological school, Drew offers a vibrant and interdisciplinary academic community as well as dynamic campus life offerings and support services for students, staff, and faculty.

The next Dean of Drew Theological School will be a highly skilled and faithful leader with experience providing dynamic leadership in academic, ecclesial, and/or related institutional contexts, with a particularly strong track record of innovation and transformation. The Theological School recently completed a curriculum revision process for its master’s and Doctor of Ministry (DMin) programs, focused on the integration of theory and practice to prepare students for professional ministry and leadership in various contexts; the articulation and application of faculty core values; collaborative, contextual, and experiential instruction via various modalities; and a portfolio-based student advising and degree milestone review system. The next Dean will lead the faculty through the evaluation and continuous improvement process of the master’s and DMin curriculum revisions already implemented, as well as the initiation of a similar process for the PhD program. The Dean will serve as a key leader and prominent figure in the wider university community, working in particular with the Dean of the Caspersen Graduate School and the College of Liberal Arts under the leadership of the Provost to create collaborative opportunities for faculty and for all undergraduate and graduate students. Additionally, the Dean of the Theological School will meet regularly with the President and serve an important role alongside the President and other university leaders, cultivating and managing relationships with key external stakeholders in the United Methodist Church and other ecclesial communities.
