Responsibilities:
The Research Analyst supports the Institutional Research, Effectiveness, and Planning Director in ensuring data quality, and in collecting, extracting, analyzing, reporting, interpreting and distributing pertinent institutional data and information about Delta State to internal and external entities, including but not limited to the Mississippi Institution of Higher Learning, the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting bodies, and higher education publication companies. Generally, but not exclusively:
  • Support data and information needs under the guidance of the Director by regularly performing research, data extraction and collection, data audits, correction, analysis, and interpretation of results to prepare institutional responses of the highest quality and accuracy in response to external and internal inquiries (“ad hoc” requests) on a wide range of issues - e.g. student admissions and enrollment, student success (retention and graduation), financial aid analysis, etc.
  • Research, gather, refine and analyze data about various aspects of the institution in support of information and research needs for planning and policy making decisions, exhibiting careful thought and an understanding of the data.
  • Prepare and maintain databases and files, including monitoring and facilitating the updating of the Banner database.
  • Become familiar with mandated specifications, procedures, definitions and scripts.
  • Under guidance of Director, complete State and Federal mandatory reporting requirements in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Participate in the development of a reliable and effective data environment for decision support. Develop, document, and maintain processes and procedures for institutional data quality and integrity. Collaborate with other institutional departments to create and enforce data standards, definitions, coding and reporting practices.
  • Compile data and create regular reports such as the official university fact book, retention and graduation reports, and any other reports as assigned by the Director.
  • Participate in the coordination of accreditation documents, university surveys, and data requested by federal and state agencies.
  • Assist in accreditation efforts through data analysis, including editing/writing responses, and project planning for Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC).
  • Assist in delivering training to campus units and individuals in use of various office software products and assessment measurement instruments.
  • Update the unit website with current data and statistical reports as directed by the Director of Institutional Research, Effectiveness, and Planning (IREP) and/or SACSCOC Accreditation Liaison.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by the Director of Institutional Research, Effectiveness, and Planning.


    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree required in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Social Sciences, Educational Research, Business Management, or related field
    • Preferred: Two or more years of experience working with research, analytics or data systems preferably in a higher education system, and/or evidence of potential in data retrieval and processing in graduate work/degree, and/or demonstration of skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
    • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and completely, to develop new skills as needed, to adapt when conditions change, and engage in continuous improvement in response to work performance feedback.
    • Attention to detail, work confidently with sensitive data, manage multiple projects with deadlines, communicate effectively in oral and written form, work both independently and collaboratively
    • Experience with Microsoft Power BI and website management (WordPress)
    • Strong statistical and analytical skill set
    • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
    • Can handle prolonged use of computer and other electronic devices to research, write and document data and/or work projects
