The Thomas Jefferson Foundation seeks a dynamic professional to lead our efforts to make Monticello a more welcoming and inclusive workplace. We seek a Vice President of Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Inclusion (DEAI) to work across the organization to instill the values of fairmindedness and equity in all aspects of our work. As part of our leadership team, this role reports directly to our President and supervises three direct reports.
The Foundation is a nonprofit organization that owns and operates Monticello in Charlottesville, VA, the historic site plantation home of Thomas Jefferson and hundreds of people, free and enslaved, who also lived and labored here. Our mission is to preserve this unique historic site and to share an honest, complicated, inclusive view of its history. We believe it is an essential place to explore the ideals and contradictions of American's founding era and its legacies in the modern world. Monticello is a UNESCO World Heritage site and part of the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience.
Candidates for the VP of DEAI will be able to embrace the complex history of our site and lead us into a new era committed to developing a work culture where people from all walks of life are welcome and thrive by contributing to our mission. We are seeking expert knowledge in the field and 10+ years of experience in civic, cultural, and/or community settings.
