Job Description:

Assist the director as the manager the circulation desk of the college library serving a student population of 1500 on campus and online and a staff and faculty of 150. Provide basic reference services to faculty, students, and staff. Represent the library on various college committees, represent the college at consortium meetings and other conferences and workshops as directed. This is a nine-month position (mid-August to mid-May).

Circulation Librarian Duties:

  • Manages the circulation desk;
  • Process materials in and out using Minuteman and Iron Mountain systems;
  • Provides one-on-one assistance at reference/circulation desk;
  • Assists students with the use of the electronic databases, information resources through the Internet, the library catalog, and other resources of the library;
  • Assists students in the use of other library technology tools and related hardware, such as printers and copiers;
  • Performs specialized database searching as needed;
  • Supports work study students, answering questions or solving problems, as necessary;
  • Registers new students;
  • Manages overdue materials;
  • Collects fines and fees;
  • Maintains serviceability of collection items;
  • Assists in hiring and scheduling of work study students and interns;
  • Trains and supervises student work;
  • Assembles and prepares faculty reserves and works with faculty to ensure that appropriate resources are available;
  • Oversees opening and closing the library using proper procedures;
  • Develops and maintains the library web site;
  • Mediates any problems that may arise with patrons as needed;
  • Represents Dean College at Minuteman Network meetings;
  • Assists with clerical, circulation, reference, and computer tasks;
  • Gives input and suggestions for improvement of departmental policies and procedures;
  • Contributes to the philosophy and mission of the college;
  • Is subject to working evening and/or weekends as needed;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Interlibrary Loan Duties:

  • Works with interlibrary loan software. Perform such duties as: verify ILL items, refer ILL requests, reply to ILL requests, maintain custom holdings, answer questions, and provide technical support to ILL staff at member libraries, etc;
  • Works with circulation software. Perform such duties as: find ILL item status and location; check out ILL items, place holds, fill send lists, route items, renew items, etc;
  • Works with spreadsheet software. Performs such duties as: run reports, compile interlibrary loan statistics, etc;
  • Works with system and statewide delivery vendor;
  • Refers bills for long overdue notices to Minuteman administrative staff to invoice borrowing libraries;
  • Works with the regional ILL office to obtain hard-to-find materials;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Managerial and Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage work study students and campus interns

Requirements:

  • Associates or Bachelor Degree in a related field, required;
  • Masters Degree in Library Science, preferred;
  • Experience using library technology, required;
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams, etc.), required;
  • Experience working with or collaborating with adult learners and students, required;
  • Library Management experience, preferred;
  • COVID-19 Vaccination, required.
