The Cardiology Research Department seeks aResearch Sonographer who will report to the Lab Director or Manager and will perform various clinical research studies in the capacity of both a sonographer and analyst, particularly of the cardiovascular system, for multi-center research studies. The candidate will also assist in the training of site sonographers, in clinical research studies.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform research cardiovascular ultrasound scans
  • Keeps abreast of current practices and applications of diagnostic ultrasound
  • Coding, evaluation, and interpretation of collected data of research cardiovascular ultrasound scans
  • Identify problems and/or inconsistencies related to the echocardiograms, which will include documentation and reporting of adverse events
  • Communicate and coordinate with research teams
  • Collaborating and preparing oral presentations and/or written manuscripts/reports and analyses setting forth progress, trends, and appropriate interpretation of results
  • Assists in the coordination and the development of study forms, questionnaires, and the application of research techniques
  • Assist in writing manuals for data collections and coding
  • Review journals, abstracts, and scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments and to obtain information regarding previous studies to aid in the planning of new studies
  • Assure compliance of general and study-specific regulatory related processes with SOPs, FDA, NIH, IRB approval (consent and privacy authorization form) and applicable regulations for the reporting of events to regulatory agencies
  • Oversee quality control activities within the department as well as satellite locations
  • Work closely with sponsor and study personnel on relevant issues
  • Record keeping and database management for fellows and faculty publications
  • Provide regular updates to Director or Manager on issues progresses, and suggestions

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED. Completion of an allied health degree program (i.e., registered diagnostic cardiac sonographer, cardiovascular technician). Must have RDCS and/or CVT certification. Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR certification required. If not currently certified, must obtain certification within 3 months of start date. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of at least two years echo experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge including advanced echocardiography imaging techniques.
  • Familiarity with ultrasound equipment both in terms for hardware used in the acquisition of clinical data but particularly in special procedures used for research.

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing and walking for extended period. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
