Job Description

A postdoctoral associate position is available in the Uyeda lab at Virginia Tech to work on novel phylogenetic comparative methods in association with a funded NSF grant that seeks to unite these methods with biomechanical performance landscapes. The successful candidate will assist the PI to develop and apply phylogenetic comparative methods to the biomechanics of fish suction-feeding. Candidates will also develop their own research projects and interests, mentor students, and work with collaborators on the project. Experience with the phylogenetic comparative methods and the analysis of biomechanical data are strongly desired. Applications will begin being considered on August 15th, 2021, with an anticipated start date in the Fall of 2022.

Required Qualifications

PhD in relevant field (evolution, organismal biology, statistics, computational biology, etc.). PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in biomechanics, especially in fish, suction feeding or other related types of biomechanical performance
Experience in the study of morphological evolution and phylogenetic comparative methods
Experience in computational biology and statistical modeling
