Job Description

Career and Professional Development (CPD) is a centralized office of 29 staff dedicated to educating and supporting students as they explore and choose academic majors and career options, obtain and reflect upon career-related experiences, develop a professional presence and essential skills for workplace success, and launch post-graduation career plans, including graduate/professional school and employment. CPD is focusing on strategic initiatives around experiential learning that support the university’s efforts to provide guided learning opportunities to all undergraduate students at Virginia Tech. The Program Coordinator will coordinate various experiential and professional development programming including program design, implementation, resource allocation, timeline, and assessment of programs and events. Responsible for coordinating programs aimed at providing work-based learning opportunities for students, professional competency development, and reflection on learning. Programming includes events, workshops, synchronous and asynchronous programs. Additionally, the Program Coordinator will support the career development of students through coaching and delivering presentations on experiential learning and professional development topics. Team members also work with employers to understand the breadth and depth of experiential and post-graduation opportunities available for students.

Key Responsibilities:
•Assist with the management and execution of cooperative education and internship programs.
•Serve as grader for section of CEP 4084/3084 (zero credit co-op/intern course).
•Coach students seeking and participating in internships and co-ops for a successful experience.
•Plan and coordinate annual program recognition events and other professional development programs for students.
•Develop marketing, promotional, and assessment plan for programs and events.
•Advise students and deliver presentations on co-op/internship search strategies, CEIP overview, program information sessions, and other professional development topics.
•Coordinate/assist with program enrollment and event registration.
•Attend site visits with organizations employing program students.
•Build relationships with faculty, staff, and employers to increase opportunities for student experiential programs and participation.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree. Strong communication skills including public speaking, presentations, facilitating, and teaching. Experience advising or mentoring college students. Excellent administrative skills, including multi-tasking and attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively on a team. Experience with project management, event planning, and building relationships with partners and stakeholders. Demonstrated initiative, innovation, and intercultural and diversity appreciation. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high demand work environment

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree or coursework in education, counseling, or related field. Experience with experiential learning and/or professional development training and creating/developing new programs.
