Job Description:

Worcester State University, Department of Earth, Environment and Physics, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate level beginning in Fall 2022.

We seek a broadly trained human geographer who works on contemporary issues of the environment and sustainability. We especially welcome applicants with expertise in areas such as environmental justice, human dimensions of climate change, sustainable transitions, political-ecology, or critical physical geography. The successful candidate will develop and maintain an active, socially engaged research program that includes a component of undergraduate involvement. Teaching responsibilities include introductory human geography and intermediate and upper level courses in the candidate's area of expertise. An interest and ability to teach some GIS-focused courses is desirable but not required. In addition, department faculty are expected to take turns teaching first-year seminar, research methods and senior capstone courses.

We seek a candidate whose teaching and research supports both of the department's majors, Geography and Environmental Science. Additional preference will be given to candidates who can further develop the Environmental Studies concentration within the Geography major. Applicants should demonstrate a potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring, active engagement in research and scholarship and a commitment to public higher education. The successful candidate will contribute to building a small, dynamic program and will complement existing departmental strengths in climate science and global environmental change. They will also have an opportunity to contribute to interdisciplinary university programs such as Environmental and Sustainability Studies, Global Studies, Ethnic Studies, Asian Studies or Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies.
