Job Description:

Worcester State University, Department of Earth Environment and Physics, invites applications for a tenure-track [Assistant/Associate Professor] position in Physics beginning in Fall 2022.

Applications from all areas of astronomy and physics are encouraged. We are especially interested in candidates who thrive in the interdisciplinary nature of the department that offers bachelor's degrees in environmental science and geography, and minors in Physics and soon Astronomy. Particularly, we are interested in candidates with a focus in observational/computational/experimental astrophysics, biophysics, and/or chemical physics.

Applicants should demonstrate: potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students; engagement in research and scholarship; a commitment to public higher education; enthusiasm for developing the physics curriculum and interdisciplinary science programs; and an interest in science education. In addition to teaching physics, the successful candidate may teach integrated science courses, contribute to the physics and astronomy minor programs, and develop new first-year seminars.

The successful candidate will help shape a small, dynamic department dedicated to offering a quality liberal arts education and small class sizes in a public institutional setting. The current contractual teaching load is 12 contact hours per semester.

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, or a related discipline, conferred by September 1, 2022
Preferred Qualifications include:
  • Undergraduate teaching experience
  • Postdoctoral research experience
