JOB DESCRIPTION

The University of Indianapolis is currently accepting applications for a Vice President of Development. The Vice President (VP), Development serves as a key leadership team member of the President's Cabinet, and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting UIndy. This position is responsible for all fundraising and development activities, including in collaboration with the President and the Trustees' Advancement Committee, all philanthropic campaigns. The VP of Development helps forge new relationships to build UIndy’s visibility, impact, and financial resources. The VP, Development also designs and implements a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual, corporate, and foundation philanthropic support, seeking major gifts, annual gifts, and planned gifts. This position leads a team of development professionals, assuring they are meeting development goals and metrics and employing best practices in identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of all types of philanthropic gifts to support the University's mission. This individual will also collaborate regularly with senior academic and staff leadership to maximize development activity effectiveness.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support and partner with the President and board members on all major fundraising initiatives
  • Serve as the university administrative lead to the Advancement Committee of the Board of Trustees
  • Staff the University Trustees' Advancement Committee
  • Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer to develop and implement UIndy’s financial strategy
  • Collaborate with Office of General Counsel to ensure all fundraising activities and agreements are in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations
  • Actively work with the president and senior staff to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy to include corporate, foundation, government grants, planned gifts, major gifts and major philanthropic campaigns
  • Have primary responsibility for development and execution of all proposals
  • Write and archive all proposals with a long-term relationship-management approach
  • Oversee research funding sources and trends, with foresight, to help position UIndy ahead of major funding changes or trends
  • Monitor all donor information; provide and present statistical analysis to board
  • Develop and implement a stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors
  • Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the development program
  • Identify, develop, and mentor the development team


QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least ten years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization is required
  • Demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources) is required
  • Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time is required
  • Tangible experience in serving in a leadership role for successful multi-year philanthropic campaigns is required
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Certification (CFRE) or Advanced Degree preferred
  • This position requires a clean or acceptable driving record according to University policy
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required
  • Ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships is required
  • Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also act as a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside of UIndy
  • Strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to details, and the ability to take initiative and manage multiple tasks and projects at a time
