Position Summary:

The person in this position will coordinate activities related primarily to prospective student services, including managing data related to the college's enrollment goals, leading outreach efforts to attract new students to the college in targeted programs, and fostering strong relationships with partner units and organizations. They also serve as the Wisconsin Youth Institute state coordinator, and advisor to the CALS Ambassador program.

The CALS Office of Academic Affairs ( http://www.cals.wisc.edu/students ) serves as the office for all undergraduates in the college, as well as for Farm and Industry Short Course students ( http://www.fisc.cals.wisc.edu/ ). The office administers the college Honors Program, CALS Career Services, underrepresented student recruitment and retention, international programs, scholarship programs, transitional advising services, curriculum and advising oversight, and other academic affairs. The office is a team-based environment and works in close collaboration with academic and administrative departments. The college offers 23 undergraduate majors to ~3000 undergraduate students.

This position reports to the Senior Assistant Dean of Recruitment, Retention, and Minority Student Affairs. Periodic weekend and evening duties required. A criminal background check will be conducted prior to hiring.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred; Knowledge of CALS-related programs and/or the broader UW-Madison landscape is beneficial.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

-At least one year of experience in direct student services
-Prior experience coordinating logistics for programs, workshops, etc.
-Public speaking and presentation skills to diverse audiences
-Track record of managing complex tasks requiring attention to detail. Specifically, experience engaging in data management and analysis
-Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
-Broad knowledge of student development, including among pre-college populations
-General computing and Microsoft Office skills

The ideal candidate's qualities include:
-Interest in advising prospective and current students on curricular requirements, course offerings, and potential career paths for students in CALS majors
-Excellent oral and written communication skills, including dynamic public speaking skills and the ability to effectively engage across a variety of on- and off-campus constituents
-Excellent time management and organization skills; must be detail oriented
-Training and knowledge in cultural competency and commitment to fostering diverse and inclusive climate
-Self-starter approach to tasks; ability to maintain consistent work-flow and follow-through work pace
-Mature and balanced judgment with the ability to manage conflict
-Ability to work independently, with strong skills as a team builder/player and collaborator to navigate shared responsibility and consultative supervision
-Understanding of policy formation as it affects procedures and goals of the office.

License or Certificate:

Due to periodic travel, must be eligible to possess a valid driver license and/or drive a State vehicle.
