Reporting to the Executive Director of Creative, the Design Director serves as a critical art director, design lead and design approver within the Creative Design team. Experienced creative leader is a solid senior individual contributor who translates marketing and communications strategies into compelling concepts and expressions to consistently and effectively bring the Syracuse University brand to life in order to advance organizational goals. Is a design innovator. Partners with Marketing Strategies and channel teams to offer viable, contemporary and brand aligned design solutions. Works closely with other Creative Leaders to ensure there’s integration between multimedia, photography, and design for projects. Serves as lead conceptor and designer for significant high-profile initiatives. Effectively and efficiently brings countless projects from concept to completion. May work with production artists to ensure effective and consistent execution of collateral. Reviews, provides feedback/guidance, and approves designers’ concepts and execution as needed. Can effectively and efficiently manage multiple design efforts simultaneously. Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and ten (10) plus years of experience in design, brand development, leadership experience. Agency art-director experience a plus.
  • A track-record of working in a highly iterative and collaborative way, directly alongside marketing leaders, creative designers, and concept developers.

Responsibilities
  • Lead Art Director and concept designer for major high-profile initiatives.
  • For significant high-profile initiatives, effectively and efficiently brings countless projects from concept to completion.
  • The Design Director serves as a critical art director, design lead and design approver within the Creative Design team.
  • Experienced creative leader is a solid senior individual contributor who translates marketing and communications strategies into compelling concepts and expressions to consistently and effectively bring the Syracuse University brand to life in order to advance organizational goals.   • Implementing modern marketing trends through creative storytelling.
  • Understands best practices in terms of use of media with an acute focus on user experience.
  • Leads designers, production artists or freelance partners and collaborates with other directors, ED’s to ensure concepts are consistently and effectively executed.
  • Solid at providing thoughtful brand-aligned input. Partners with Marketing Strategies and channel teams to offer viable, contemporary and brand aligned design solutions.
  • Works closely with other Creative Leaders to ensure there’s integration between multimedia, photography, and design for projects.
  • Serves as lead conceptor and designer for significant high-profile initiatives.
  • Understands the tenants of brand stewardship and becomes an expert on interpreting and expressing the Syracuse University brand.
  • Provides final review and sign-off on projects as needed.
  • Reviews, provides feedback/guidance and approves designers’ concepts and execution as needed.
  • Can effectively and efficiently manage multiple design efforts simultaneously.
  • Drives the creation of collateral and concept — both physical and digital with excellent attention to detail.
  • Approves all high-end creation production and may serve as partner in ‘concepting’ for significant events or campaigns.
  • Close visual acuity to perform tasks related the production of content.
  • Ability to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  • Frequently moves Audio/Visual equipment across campus to various sites and for events; ability to move, lift, set up and break down photography and videography equipment. Ability to lift 25-50 lbs. repeatedly at multiple assignments.
  • Flexibility and ability to position oneself to shoot a variety of images. Photo/video shoots may require standing, sitting, and kneeling for 4-8 hours.
