The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The Associate Director of the Center for Multicultural Engagement and Inclusion ( CMEI ) is a creative and passionate professional who has a vision for the future of student-led media and operates from a lens of understanding and prioritizing equity in working with MSU Denver’s diverse students. The Associate Director is responsible for the administration and management of the Center for Multicultural Engagement and Inclusion’s Met Media programs, which consist of student-led television, radio, & print platforms, marketing, sales, and creative services. In this role, the Associate Director will work with the campus community to envision a new Met Media model that serves as a conduit for student connection, voices, and perspectives. As such, the goals of CMEI’s Met Media platforms will be to advance the education, empowerment, and activation of MSU Denver students through the sharing of salient news, stories, perspectives, and information. The Associate Director leads a team of professional staff members and faculty advisors who, together, support the student-led entities within CMEI’s Met Media programs to provide powerful and important platforms for student engagement at MSU Denver.

The Associate Director is charged with embedding equity and inclusion in student engagement to positively impact academic outcomes of students. This involves growing robust and relevant opportunities for MSU Denver’s diverse student population to develop salient leadership skills through the creation and sharing of media, and doing so in such a way that enables student learning, amplifies student voice, and leads to greater student education and conditions that empower students to feel a sense of belonging and connection to the MSU Denver community. As such, the position is expected to deliver culturally conscious and inclusive support of the student population. This key leadership position works across the University with faculty, staff, and key student affairs and academic departments to establish strong and intentional partnerships focused on developing media-related engagement opportunities from an equity and inclusion lens. This position reports to the Director of the CMEI within Student Engagement and Wellness.

Duties/Responsibilities

65% Met Media Operations
• Responsible for the administration and management of the CMEI’s Met Media entities. Ensures that Met Media space and its programming centers racial equity, cultural identity, and operationalizes social justice within the applicable context and considers equity and justice in fiscal strategies impacting multicultural engagement and inclusion.
• Positions Met Media as a collaborative contributor and partner across CMEI functional areas, envisioning connections and leveraging resources to synergize student leadership development as well as broader and more equitable student engagement at the University.
• Provides vision and promulgates a “digital-first” Met Media through website and social media strategies that emphasize convergence, multimedia, digital ad sales and search engine optimization, staying current with changing technology to provide the best experiential opportunities for students’ career preparation.
• Leads operations in compliance with sound management and accounting policies and procedures. In consultation with Director and with support of CMEI staff, manages budget comprised of student fee funding and maintains revenue accounts ensuring compliance with state and institutional rules and requirements.
• Maintains and works closely with the Board of Student Media and works to strengthen this body as an important source of guidance for Met Media.
• Works with student sales and marketing teams to encourage revenue growth while recognizing that Met Media’s primary goals are educational, student-centered, and prioritize student-led management of content.
• Enhances collaborative and supportive relationships with the Center for Equity and Student Achievement in addition to strategic groups including academic departments, student affairs offices, student government, tri-institutional Auraria campus agencies and neighboring communities to grow student awareness and participation of curricular and co-curricular programming at the University and broader community.
• Promotes leadership, internship, and employment opportunities for diverse student populations.
25% Supervision and Coordination
• Provides excellent supervision for professional staff and coordinates activities of faculty advisors who are the subject matter experts for each of the entities within Met Media.
• Provides mentorship and training to student leaders. Mentorship and training includes the following: creating measurable learning outcomes for Met Media student leaders, tracking and assessing the work of all Met Media units and progress of students.
• Provides guidance in areas of legal and ethical issues that relate to student media such as libel, First Amendment, Colorado Open Records Act, risk management and the navigation of professional standards and expectations.

10% Related Other Duties
• Actively participates in committees and working groups related to equity and student engagement and supports the development and implementation of equity and diversity education and training on campus.
• Leads and/or contributes to special projects and/or initiatives, as requested that relate to equitable student engagement.
• Participates in training and relevant professional development activities to support professional and/or departmental growth. Works to operationalize and/or integrate learning from these trainings into the work unit and work processes.
• Is an innovator, a disrupter, and a change agent for racial equity and student engagement. Strives to recognize inequities in the work and in oneself and commits to address them. Seeks out opportunities to take calculated risks in support of a more engaged and equitably supported student community at MSU Denver.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Media leadership experience including staff supervision and program development.
• Experience with necessary journalistic skills, values, ethics and responsibilities of student media, including the need to provide a forum for the free expression of ideas.

Preferred Qualifications

• Earned Master’s Degree in media-related, higher education administration, student affairs, or other applicable field.
• Two years of professional media leadership experience.
• Understanding of student fee-funded media programs in a higher education environment.
• Foundational understanding of social justice and equity issues within higher education.
• Proficiency in computer applications in a media environment with demonstrated knowledge of digital media.
• Demonstrated experience impacting equity and social justice outcomes.
• Superior communication skills, including oral presentations, writing and editorial experience.
• Proficiency with Adobe Suit software (InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, Audition, Premier Pro) and WordPress or similar web content management systems.
• Experience with assessment of program performance and student learning outcomes.
• Demonstrated knowledge of media laws and ethics pertaining to student media.
