The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. MSU Denver offers a full benefits package.

The Assistant Dean/Director is a visionary and strategic leader who provides oversight and direction for the Center for Multicultural Engagement and Inclusion ( CMEI ). The CMEI encompasses student leadership programs, student organizations (inclusive of student government, fraternities, and sororities), student engagement programs and activities, and student media programs. There is an intentional focus on equity and justice that is embedded in all of the Center’s programming. The Assistant Dean/Director is responsible for oversight and management of the Center, including for the personnel, budget, and programmatic evaluation/ assessment. The Assistant Dean/Director operates as a change-agent providing leadership for diversity, equity, and identity-based programming, leadership education, and initiatives on campus that engage the University community and tri-institutional partners (University of Colorado-Denver and Community College of Denver).

In collaboration with key constituents, the Assistant Dean/Director will advance the development and implementation of a strategic plan for equity, engagement, and inclusive student leadership and governance that is mission-driven and aligned with the University’s overall strategic plan. This leader plays a key role in shaping the campus climate and culture into one that is recognized for demonstrating how racial equity translates into meaningful and transformational experiences and sense of belonging for all students, faculty, and staff. Additionally, the Assistant Dean/Director will serve as an alternate and designee on committees, supervision, and support of staff in the Associate Dean’s unit, as requested. The Assistant Dean/Director of Multicultural Engagement and Inclusion reports to the Associate Dean of Equity and Student Engagement.

Duties/Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership and Advocacy-(30%)
• Promotes, supports, participates in, and leads equity and inclusion initiatives to positively impact enrollment, student retention, and graduation rates.
• Guided by goals and student needs, establishes culturally conscious programming and services for supporting students who are historically underrepresented in higher education. Intentionally integrates such programs to be in alignment with other key University initiatives (e.g., Hispanic Serving Institution Initiative and Committee for Sustained Racial Justice).

• Leads the visioning and ongoing development of the Center for Multicultural Engagement and Inclusion,
• Actively builds relationships with key internal and external individuals and groups, including but not limited to faculty, staff/administrators, shared governance groups, and relevant community organizations such as foundations and business organizations.
• Facilitates collaboration between multiple identity groups, including the LGBTQ Student Resource Center, Veteran and Military Student Center, Center for Equity and Student Achievement Programs, Access Center, Enrollment Services, Student Engagement and Wellness, and Office for Institutional Diversity.
• Sets and facilitates the Center’s ongoing anti-racist agenda and evaluates the efficacy of the strategies employed.
• Enhances cross-cultural understanding and competence at the University through development and implementation of policies, procedures, and co-curricular activities that are guided by the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, transparency, and shared governance.
• Responsible for ensuring that departmental practices and policies are regularly reviewed with attention to risk-management. In consultation with colleagues (i.e. Associate Vice President, General Counsel’s Office, etc.), review relevant guiding documents and related across the unit.
• Develops systemic and ongoing cocurricular partnerships with academic department leaders and heads that result in cross-divisional and cross-institutional student learning outcomes.
• Collaborates and builds partnerships with internal and external constituents and key stakeholders.
2. Goal setting and Assessment-(15%)
• Leads and oversees ongoing assessment of student learning outcomes for all major Center programs.
• Ensures appropriate systems/mechanisms are in place for tracking and accounting for student participation for all major Center programs, including the appropriate disaggregation by relevant demographic variables.
• Stays current in research and national trends on the topics of campus climate and culturally conscious programs to close equity gaps.
• Sets appropriate goals, in collaboration with the Associate Dean, members of the advisory board, and with relevant program staff.
• Responsible for conducting program evaluation to determine if programs are successfully achieving goals.
3. Supervision-(25%)
• Supervises professional staff.
• Develops and fills positions as the hiring authority, establishes performance goals, and provides timely and accurate performance feedback.
• Holds staff accountable for their respective roles in anti-racist work, as well as other key departmental and institutional initiatives.
• Provides performance management as needed.
4. Resources and Budgeting-(10%)
• Oversees multiple budgets within the Center for Multicultural Engagement & Inclusion, ensuring adherence to University budget policies and processes and alignment with mission and goals of the center and programs.
• Works to pursue additional funding opportunities such as through grants and donations to enhance programs and support the Center’s goals.
5. Service-(10%)
• Serves on campus committees that focus on student engagement, the promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion programming, outreach, and education.
• Interacts with and engages the campus community in building strategic partnerships to elevate the visibility and value of equity in education.
• Assists staff and faculty in integrating and infusing equity and racial justice efforts via student-centered initiatives and programs.
6. Professional Development- (5%)
• Attends and leads training and conducts presentations at local, regional and national professional conferences
7. Other Duties as Assigned-(5%)

Required Qualifications

• Master’s Degree.
• Experience supervising professional staff and providing performance management.
• Five years of professional experience in higher education leading or contributing to significant student engagement efforts/initiatives, including with underrepresented students (specifically racial/ethnic minority populations and/or first-generation).
• Evidence of effective program/event planning and management.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity outcomes and diversity in a higher education setting.
• Five years of progressively increasing responsibility working in a student support capacity in a higher education setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctoral Degree in applicable field.
• Three years of experience supervising professional staff and providing performance management.
• Experience supervising student staff and providing professional and leadership development.
• Experience working with faculty.
• Demonstrated ability to work with students and staff from varying racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds with appropriate race/ethnicity-consciousness.
• Record of experience effectively utilizing cultural competency in the workplace.
• Experience conducting program assessment or program evaluation of student learning outcomes for improvement.
• Conversation speaking ability in Spanish.

Work Hours

Monday through Friday 8 to 5 with flexibility for evening and weekend functions.
