The salary range for this position is $41,200 – $51,500. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. MSU Denver offers a full benefits package.

The Advising and Retention Coordinator ( ARC ) in the Department of Nutrition’s Student Services Office advises and coordinates advising services for current students in all programs within the Department, including undergraduate and graduate programs. Through direct advising and the coordination of advising services, including assessment of these activities, the ARC is central to the Department of Nutrition’s enrollment management strategies by contributing data and implementing strategic goal-based advising interventions and programming. The ARC provides leadership in creating an inclusive environment for a diverse student body and integrates these efforts into advising services.

The activities performed by the ARC are central to increasing student enrollment, retention, persistence, and graduation rates of MSU Denver students while enhancing the student experience and increasing access to higher education; and thereby, advancing the mission of MSU Denver, the College of Health and Applied Sciences, and the Department of Nutrition.

Duties/Responsibilities

Academic Advising & Advising Services Coordination (60%)
• Manages student inquiries and coordinates advising services.
• Conducts academic advising appointments for students in all programs in a variety of formats to include: in-person, phone, email, videoconference, etc.
• Creates comprehensive academic plans of completion that are individually customized.
• Supports and guides students from diverse backgrounds towards reaching their academic and professional goals and navigating higher education culture and systems.
• Supports students registering for courses and solving registration problems and errors.
• Designs and participates in University and Departmental advising campaigns.
• Identifies and implements various strategies to meet the Department of Nutrition’s strategic enrollment goals and Departmental goals and initiatives by customizing advising and advising services.
• Engages in assessment practices to continually improve and develop advising services.
• Identifies students who are out of academic standing compliance and designs a customized resolution plan that adheres to programmatic course sequencing rules as well as Departmental and University policies and procedures.
• Identifies high risk students through early intervention and uses strategies in retention, student development, and proactive advising in outreach to these students.
• Meets with students who are struggling in classes and/or academically and identifies and coordinates a support team and intervention.
• Coordinates and implements program activities which enhance student engagement, academic success, retention, and graduation of eligible students.
• Engages with University student support resources such as CARE reports, Office of Graduate Studies, the Counseling Center, and other areas.
• Utilizes Student Success Collaborative Campus ( SSC Campus), Banner, Degree Works, and other systems to optimize communication and collaboration between students, faculty advisors, professional advisors, and the larger University.
• Designs and facilitates unique advising sessions to include group sessions, classroom visits, and University advising events.
• Aids in the development of new student services as needed.
• Connects students to resources within department to aid in success, including faculty advisors, scholarships, and tutoring services.
• Aids in improving students’ successful educational strategies such as effective study habits, time management skills, and supportive educational environment development.

Event Coordination and Planning (15%)
• Coordinates and executes a variety of student-focused events and workshops to aid in community-building and student retention and success. Includes, but is not limited to: graduation-related events, student social events, and Dietetic Internship application workshops.

Alumni Engagement & Career Readiness (15%)
• Provides support in the areas of alumni engagement and preparing nutrition students for workforce entry. Includes managing and updating the alumni database, recruiting alumni for participation at events, and connecting students to job opportunities.

Strategic Enrollment Management (5%)
• Participates in strategic enrollment management strategies and initiatives through all aspects of advising and coordinating advising services by designing and implementing systems and processes that aim to meet enrollment, retention, persistence, and graduation goals while simultaneously upholding the quality of services that are core to the Department of Nutrition.

Other Duties as Assigned (5%)

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• Demonstrated experience with developmental advising techniques (or equivalent experience)

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in higher education, nutrition, or related field
• Experience working in a higher education setting
• Demonstrated ability to handle highly sensitive information/materials in a confidential manner
• Experience with Banner or related Student Information System
• Experience with retention software ( SSC -Campus)
• Experience working with alumni to create services and/or events
