The Water Resources Laboratory at the Everglades Research and Education Center is looking to hire a Postdoctoral Associate for a 2-3-year appointment. This is a grant funded position that focuses on research and extension related to Best Management Practices (BMPs) to reduce phosphorus loads in the Everglades Agricultural Area farms in south Florida. The candidate will work closely with lab personnel and collaborative farm managers to evaluate current implemented BMPs; plan and conduct research to improve water quality out of these collaborative farms. The candidate will be expected to plan, coordinate, and participate with water, soil and sediment sampling in collaboration with lab personnel. The candidate will need to effectively communicate with various stakeholders. The candidate is expected to 1) prepare, publish, and present research findings through reports, refereed publications, and extension materials; 2) participate in technology transfer of best management practices to farm personnel via workshops and farm visits; 3) monitor water sampling instrumentation and coordinate maintenance; and 4) assist in laboratory QA/QC activities as needed. Laboratory analysis of soil and water samples will be necessary. This may include analyzing samples using flow analyzers, ICP, and other instruments. Grant sponsor is the Everglades Agricultural Area Environmental Protection District.


A doctoral degree (PhD, foreign equivalent acceptable) is required. Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system. Candidates must also have a commitment to IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability.


  • Doctoral degree in Soil Sciences, Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering, or related fields.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and extension experience
  • A good publication record.
  • Knowledge and skill with basic computing in a Microsoft environment and statistical software.
  • Experience on collecting and analyzing large sets of water and soil data.
