Academic Search is an organization whose mission is to build institutional capacity through leadership at colleges and universities throughout the country. We are growing and seek to add a new team member with a commitment to our mission and affinity to provide outstanding administrative support.

 

To be successful in the role, we believe the new team member will have a can-do, entrepreneurial mindset providing the ability to anticipate challenges, propose solutions, and implement those solutions We are partial, but we believe this individual will be joining a small but mighty “central team” and this is a critical role to help keep our team and organization on track. This team member is also likely the first point of contact for candidates, campus leaders, and organizational partners. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with a problem-solving mindset will be needed.

 

Academic Search’s office is located in Washington, DC, but the staff works remotely, and the Administrative Coordinator may do so as well. Preference may be given to individuals based in Washington, DC, so that visits can be made to the office on an as-needed basis.

 

The Role

There will be no typical week. Each week will bring new challenges, last minute requests, and competing demands from our campuses and team members. We seek someone that finds joy in administrative support and is not afraid to make suggestions for improvement. Part of providing support to the team would likely include:      

  • Support to the president, chief operating officer, and practice leaders through keen attention to detail, strong writing skills, and editing and proofing assistance
  • Customer service support such as answering and routing phone calls, drafting and responding to emails, and data entry
  • Internet research to prepare briefings and updates for team members
  • Coordinating organizational presence for meetings, events, and conferences
  • Being creative to develop and implement new policies/procedures to streamline the work of Academic Search
  • Ensuring that the office is well-maintained, organized, and secure (if located in the Washington, DC area)
  • Assist with special projects (we like saying it this way rather than other duties as assigned)

 

Team Member Qualities

As with any small, remote team, we are looking for someone to join us that will bring new ideas, excitement for administrative work, and a commitment to our mission. Our team works in a Microsoft Office environment and proficiency on Office products will be critical. We believe that will include the following qualities, but want to hear from you on what you will bring to this position:

  • Capacity to work professionally and exercise good judgment in interacting with a variety of groups and individuals with varying styles
  • Excellent problem-solving skills including attention to the details
  • A desire to enhance or streamline procedures
  • Ability to maintain a calm demeanor under pressure and when juggling multiple priorities and competing demands
  • Willingness to learn
  • Ability to function well in a remote environment
  • Reliable access to the internet

 

The Details

The salary range for this position is $55,000 - $65,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits are available, such as health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, long- and short-term disability, life insurance, paid vacation, holiday and sick time. It is anticipated that this individual will work a 40-hour work week with a flexible start and end time.
