Job Description:

Raritan Valley Community College has an anticipated opening of Career Services Advisor for Transfer & Career Services.

RVCC is currently seeking a Career Services Advisor to carry out the mission, vision, and strategic goals of the department.  This Advisor provides career education and support to meet students' and graduates' career development needs in the following areas: career readiness, including but not limited to resume writing, interviewing, workplace professionalism, industry expectations, and employment. This includes equipping students for making career plans by facilitating awareness of their work-related strengths, skills, interests, and values and understanding the world of work; preparing students for finding suitable employment by enhancing their job search skills and fostering relationships with the employer community to provide students with opportunities to develop professional skills, integrate academic learning with work, and find jobs.

The individual provides career and professional development support to RVCC students, inclusive of underrepresented student populations, through coaching, mentoring programs and department-wide initiatives including partnering with faculty to integrate career readiness into the curriculum. Additionally, this Advisor will contribute to maintaining the online job/internship database.

Duties include but not limited to:

Assess student/alumni career readiness and advise on job search techniques including resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, branding and networking including LinkedIn and digital portfolios, and the multi-dimensional job search process with an emphasis on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Support campus outreach efforts by designing and presenting career-related educational programs and presentations to students in classroom settings and for various campus clubs and student organizations. Assess programs and services, evaluate data, and make changes as required to improve student outcomes.

Communicate with employers to connect them to resources on campus and develop additional employment and mentoring opportunities for RVCC students. Identify competencies and characteristics sought by employers.  Assist with employer registration questions and follow up with employers via telephone and email correspondence.

Guide students, alumni, and faculty with the use of the online job/internship database and digital portfolio.

Communicate with RVCC departments to market the use of our online job database and ensure that the postings meet the ethical standards established by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).

Maintain job/internship database (through career management software) and publicize a weekly list of relevant job/internship postings to faculty and students.

Coordinate on-campus and/or virtual employer information sessions.

Provide a social media presence to foster positive, ongoing College community relationships with Career Services.

Assist in creating and editing newsletters, brochures, and other resource materials for Career Services and external stakeholders.

Oversee maintenance of the Career Services web page. Research appropriate links for inclusion.

Conduct assessments of our services to both internal and external constituents.

Maintain records and compile reports.

Participate in various professional development activities to maintain knowledge of emerging trends in career development through organizations such as NACE and NJC3.

Assist in representing the department at orientation, welcome week, admissions, etc.

Serve on RVCC Industry Advisory Boards.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

    Bachelor's degree in Student Services or related field required. Direct work experience in career services and job placement in Higher Education. Demonstrated skills in engaging a diverse student population utilizing student development models and framework Knowledge and skills in career development theory, student learning outcomes, and career advising. Ability to establish rapport and relate well to students, faculty, employers, parents, alumni, and staff. Excellent written, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all components of the College and external constituents Experience in creating and implementing programs, presentations, and workshops in-person and in a remote environment Ability to support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students and employees Comfortable working with computer technology and online web-based services Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently; well-organized and detail-oriented; problem solving and project management skills Knowledge of standard career assessments such as: Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory, and Clifton StrengthsFinder Knowledge and skills in outreach and marketing, including digital flier design and creative student engagement

Preferred Qualification:

    Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel, Counseling, or other related degree plus 2 years in career counseling in a higher education setting
