Assistant Director for Field Education / Hudson Valley Center

Social Work

JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director for Field Education is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the field education program for the Hudson Valley Center. Coordination with the assistant directors responsible for field education at the Hauppauge, Manhattan, and Garden City campuses, and the OMSW program. Collaborates with the administrative team for the Hudson Valley Center as well as the Orange County Community College and Ulster extension centers.

REPORTS TO: Director of Field Education

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  1. Develop and evaluate new and existing field agency settings.
  2. Conduct field education assessments for graduate and undergraduate students.
  3. Collaborate in the development and implementation of evaluation instruments for agency and student planning.
  4. Conducts placement planning meetings with students; facilitates and coordinates all field placement assignments.
  5. Supervise adjunct faculty serving as Faculty Field Liaisons, in collaboration with the Director of Field Education and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
  6. Provide consultation to faculty field liaisons working to support student success in field placements.
  7. Provides guidance to students experiencing challenges in field education.
  8. Collaborate with Faculty Field Liaisons to develop educational contracts for students who are not demonstrating progress in developing required competencies.
  9. Provide consultation to Faculty Field Liaisons on any continuing unresolved student performance-related issue in field and work with the FFLs and Director of Field on any Academic Standard Committee referrals.
  10. Provides academic advisement to students entering the HSP program, pending the start of field instruction.
  11. Collaborate in the development and implementation of faculty development for field instructors, educational coordinators, and faculty field liaisons.
  12. Review, revise, and approve employment-based field education plans.
  13. Serve on the Field Education Committee, and other School committees as assigned.
  14. Uses designated field education software to maintain a database of student placements and agencies.
  15. Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, skills and abilities)
  1. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  2. Strong computer skills.
  3. Ability to build collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholder groups, including students, faculty and field agency personnel.
  4. Ability to manage diverse student and agency workload.
  5. Ability to travel between the Hudson Valley Center and the OCC and Ulster Extension Centers.
  6. Commitment to social justice and anti-racist practice.
  7. Comprehensive knowledge of social work practice.
  8. Effective time management and organizational skills.
  9. Extensive knowledge and skill in field instruction, training, and supervision.
  10. Knowledge of the continuing education needs of the professional community.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. M.S.W. (Masters in Social Work) from a CSWE accredited School of Social Work required.
  2. Minimum of six years post-M.S.W. direct practice experience including three years of relevant supervisory and administrative experience required.
  3. Licensed in New York State (LMSW or LCSW) required.
  4. Experience in field education or related area(s) of social work education, and relevant experience in providing training to practitioners.
