The Food Service Worker 3 (FSW3) is part of an energetic team designed to support the work unit by performing a wide range of food service activities such as staff coordination, customer service, food prep, cooking and serving, as well as directing other staff in these activities.
This position has responsibility for decisions related to the efficient operation of food service lines, prioritizing activities performed by lower level food service workers and ensuring that facilities meet UO cleanliness and safety guidelines. The FSW3 provides ongoing training throughout the year to FSW2 staff and student employees and works in conjunction with other dining staff to create a trend-setting dining experience for our Ducks.
The person in this position requires strong customer service skills, as they will interact directly with students, staff and faculty. This position adheres to the Service Standards set by Housing Food Services and sets the example for other level positions by exhibiting appropriate professional behavior and creating a respectful and inclusive work environment.
This position is a full-time, 12-month position. Shifts may include nights, weekends and holidays. Schedules may change based upon the operational needs of the unit.
Work conditions and physical requirements are typical of those found in the food service industry. These include slippery floors, extreme temperatures, heavy lifting and standing for long periods.
- Must have, or ability to obtain, a Lane County Food Handler's
card within 2 weeks of employment.
- Must take and be able to understand Hazard Communication
Training supplied by employer.
- Must be able to read and write in English for purpose of
reading menus, worksheets, preparing usage reports, and to
understand policies, procedures and safety information.
- Successfully complete a skills assessment during the interview
This position requires the employee to make every reasonable effort to arrive at campus at their regularly scheduled times during inclement weather and/or university closures unless otherwise notified by their supervisor or manager. This includes times when the university may be closed. Essential personnel must provide reliable and current contact information at all times.
- Three years of experience in a commercial food service
- An Associate Degree in Food Service Management.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate
effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and
- Ability to prioritize duties, maintain professional demeanor,
and provide excellent customer service during rush
- Ability to read menus and worksheets and calculate and read
recipes written in English.
- Experience with supervision or lead work, including experience
training others in food service skills.
- Knowledge, skills, and ability to operate common institutional
food service equipment and to grill, broil, saute, braise, bake,
steam, cut, mix, and mash.
