The Trades Maintenance Worker 2 (TMW2) is part of University Housing Facilities Service's team of trades workers responsible for routine and reactive maintenance, repairs, and improvements to all assigned University Housing buildings and associated equipment.
Essential responsibilities include maintenance and repair of heating systems (steam, heat pumps, split systems, and radiant, etc.), basic plumbing work, changing light bulbs, minor carpentry work (furniture repair, mounting video displays, repairing doors, etc.); and maintenance and repairs to a variety of building equipment to include commercial kitchen equipment (ovens, dishwashers, sinks, walk-in refrigeration, etc.).
Work is typically accomplished independently, applying personal knowledge of general and specific work techniques. Work will be performed to service standards, in compliance with state and local building and construction codes, to include electrical, plumbing, and fire codes. This position will assist trade workers to include electricians, plumbers, and refrigeration technicians when accomplishing maintenance and repairs that require licensed personnel.
This position requires use of various hand and power tools, safety equipment, and personal protective equipment, including fall-prevention equipment.
This is a full-time, 12-month position and reports to a University Housing Facilities Manager.
Valid driver's license and the ability to obtain UO Driver's Certification for the purpose of driving University vehicles.
Three years of general building maintenance experience in one or more of the following trade areas: carpentry, electrical, mechanical, painting, plumbing, and welding.
- Ability to read and write in English for purpose of reading
work orders, recording records in a CMMS, and to understand
policies, procedures and safety information
- Basic mechanical knowledge and experience using basic power
tools to perform electrical and maintenance tasks
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from wiring diagrams,
blueprints, service manuals, and written instructions
- Ability to prioritize duties, maintain professional demeanor,
and provide excellent customer service
- Ability to maintain a respectful workplace and model a
positive, proactive, customer service-focused attitude
- Ability to work effectively within a diverse higher education
student, housing resident, and employee population
- Maintenance experience in a higher education facility or large
- Experience with maintenance and repair of HVAC
- Experience with maintenance and repair of steam heating and hot
water boiler systems
- Ability to work using required safety equipment in confined
spaces, to climb ladders, and to work from ladders or elevated
platforms and rooftops
- Ability to operate maintenance equipment to include lift trucks
and powered high-reach vehicles.
