General Description
Availability as early as August 16, 2021, through May 31, 2022, with potential for extension based on performance and funding. Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 hours will vary. Position to report to Sara Stewart Stevens, Program Director, Division of Textiles and Apparel (TXA), School of Human Ecology, College of Natural Sciences.
Responsibilities
- Familiarity with all of the machines: tabletop, sergers, overlock, and industrials: straight stitch, walking foot, and 3 & 5 thread serger. Familiarity with garment patterns and sewing experience. Must be able to answer student questions about garment construction coursework and assignments. A design and/or garment construction background.
- Supervises sewing lab equipment.
- Prepares specifications for setting up equipment in classrooms and laboratories. Supervises issuance of supplies and equipment. Oversees the classroom set up for lectures, demonstrations or experiments. Instructs students, departmental employees and faculty members in the uses of equipment, and in proper supply procedures. Conducts inventory of equipment and supplies. Maintains inventory of materials and equipment. Orders lab supplies; works closely with Accounting to assure signed documentation of received equipment arrives in a timely fashion.
- Will work with instructors to prep labs the week prior to the fall semester starting. Coordinates with all faculty, staff and graduate students related to TXA labs. Reports to Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, lab faculty and Undergraduate Advisor to assist with curricular goals in undergraduate labs. Oversees and prepares multiple overlapping lab sections for three courses (8-9 sections per semester).
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Textiles and Apparel or related field. 2 years of experience in fashion design. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to enforce safety guidelines in the laboratory.
Relevant experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience related to functions described above. Demonstrated leadership/teaching skills, initiative, and professionalism.
