About the Opportunity:
The Initiative for Energy Justice (IEJ) was founded by lawyers entrenched in the policy debates concerning the nation's transition away from fossil fuels and an extractive economy towards an equitable and renewable energy future, with direct connections to communities working on that transition.
IEJ aims to contribute to a bottom-up movement of energy justice, originating in frontline communities, by arming movement and base-building organizations in environmental, racial, and economic justice spaces with well-supported policy research and workable transactional models for operationalizing a just transition to renewable energy. IEJ also provides city and state policymakers with concrete energy policy frameworks and best-practice tools that foreground equity in the transition to renewable energy, drawing on the best-available data collected from frontline advocates, existing energy policies, and frameworks designed by our team.
IEJ seeks a Communications Specialist to coordinate the publication of IEJ research and resources. The Communications Specialist will:
- Create communications content (including drafting, editing, and

- Manage IEJ's operational and technology platforms (Zoom, Google
Key responsibilities and typical amount of time:
Create communications content (50%)
including drafting, editing, and graphic design
-Creating policy briefs and other short-form materials for website and social media and engaging in some in-house graphic design for small to medium projects
-Developing on-brand materials to support rollout of IEJ research findings
-Assisting with closing research gaps in existing work products and providing editing, citation, and project management assistance
-Coordinating with graphic designers to enhance the visual layout of IEJ research materials for major projects
Publish and maintain content (40%)
including via web, email, social, and press
-Website publication and occasional blogging
-Creating and/or maintaining IEJ social media channels
-Coordinating press releases and media interviews with relevant outlets
Manage IEJ's operational and technology platforms (10%)
Including Zoom, Google Workspace, and communication services
-Coordinating logistics of webinars in conjunction with rollout of IEJ research findings
-Organizing/maintaining technology access for IEJ staff and student researchers (email accounts, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.)
-Degree preferred OR commensurate amount of experience (4 years)
-Strong writing and editing skills
-Experience with disseminating communications online and by email
-Demonstrated commitment to social and racial justice
-Experience with accessible and effective communications for diverse audiences
-Basic understanding of energy policy and field of energy justice, equity, and democracy
-Intermediate skills in publishing via Wordpress, Mailchimp, and social media
-Intermediate skills in graphic design via Canva, Adobe InDesign, or other equivalent platforms
