Assistant Director of Constituent Engagement

General Description:

The Assistant Director of Constituent Engagement is a key member of the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences (KSAS) team, serving to facilitate the School’s fundraising and prospect pipeline building efforts. The Assistant Director will develop, coordinate and implement engagement strategies in partnership with multiple JHU offices including the Central Alumni Relations/Affinity Programs, Krieger School faculty, Homewood Life Design Lab and student services offices, Whiting School of Engineering, and other university divisions. This position will oversee alumni engagement metrics for analysis, data pertaining to growth markets, and other alumni relations activities, to inform regional strategy and programming. The Assistant Director will be involved in all aspects of alumni engagement programs and content related event strategies and be the independent strategic project leader for many of the initiatives. Other responsibilities include the coordination of support activities such as: pre and post-event support and oversight of key action items.

Specific duties & responsibilities (%):

  • Partner with the Director of Constituent Engagement to develop strategies, objectives, and measures of success and independently oversee the planning and implementation of comprehensive and diversified activities to keep alumni and students informed, interested, and actively engaged in the life of the School.
  • Serve as KSAS lead collaborator and liaison with the offices of Life Design, Office of Alumni Relations, Affinity Programs, Registrar, Admissions, and Student Services on events, activities and programming to enhance the growth of alumni, donor and student-alumni engagement with the School. This includes management and collaboration of the school’s alumni-student mentorship program and intersession programs events and activities such as Wall Street Today, Summer Finance, Entrepreneurship and Biotech treks/events.
  • Report to the Director of Constituent Engagement, the Assistant Director will work closely with the Senior Director of Development and the gift officer team to discover and facilitate the identification of potential prospects at respective programming opportunities and events for pipeline building.
  • Create content-related events in the School’s local and regional geographic territories (i.e. Dean and/or faculty hosted school-branded programs and event activities).
  • Represent, manage and support KSAS activities at Leadership Weekend, Reunion Weekend, Young Alumni Weekend, and Executive Committee meetings, and provide staff support to the KSAS alumni representatives to the JHU Alumni Council.
  • Coordinate the School’s Johns Hopkins Alumni Association Alumni Council membership and award nominations, Alumni Trustee nominations, and collaborative regional programming.
  • Conduct annual visits with prospective donors and friends of the Krieger School to explore opportunities for future events and other alumni engagement related programs—including exploring new regional alumni markets. These may also be joint visits that include top volunteers in order to maintain and develop important relationships.
  • Plan, coordinate and execute KSAS event activities including: overseeing the creation of event invitations, deploying a marketing strategy, assist with the site selection and management of responses.
  • Other responsibilities include overseeing and coordination of pre- and post-event planning activities and action items from each event such as: briefings, sending out timely follow-up and thank you communications to event attendees, surveys, facilitating the introduction of a designated gift officer to new prospects and completing thorough prospect management notes.
  • Collaborator with the Office of Advancement Services on alumni data tracking, transfer and coding in the alumni database system (ALADIN).
  • Track and analyze trends in alumni data from ALADIN, LinkedIn, ONEHOP, and other sources to strategically determine and develop decisions on events, geographic alumni engagement activities, and affinity programming.
  • Liaise with Communications and Marketing to provide donor and alumni and event related stories for publications, marketing materials, and social media, as well as collaborate on content/updates for the KSAS alumni website.
  • Manage and maintain a Krieger School of Arts and Science Speaker Request system to leverage faculty travel schedules and availability.
  • Support to KSAS multiple volunteer boards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required.

Two years of related experience.

Preferred qualifications:

Five years related experience, preferably including fundraising and/or alumni relations related activities in alumni relations, events, volunteer management, fundraising or related field, preferably in an institution of higher education.

  • A proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
  • The incumbent will be trained in the use of the JHU development database.

Technical qualifications or specialized certifications: Expertise in MS Office Suite skills – especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with prospect management databases.

Travel twice monthly is required. Core domestic markets include NYC, DC/VA, San Francisco Bay Area and Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Denver, and Los Angeles.
