Johns Hopkins Institute for NanoBioTechnology seeks aResearch Technologist who will design, perform, analyze and report on experiments that test a model, hypothesis or question in a specific area of biomedical research such as (but not limited to) biophysics, biochemistry, bioinformatics, cell biology, cognition, disease mechanisms, genetics, immunology, metabolism, microbiology, molecular biology, neuroscience, physiology, tissue engineering or virology.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

    Responsibilities include basic research work appropriate to the lab (e.g., computational biomolecular design, molecular biology, cell culture, microscopy) plus related tasks and intellectual activities in the lab, and participation in Rosetta Commons Postbac Program Activities including but not limited to chalk-talks, project meetings and workshops. Develops computational protocols for protein engineering, and tests and validates those protocols using Rosetta software and deep learning code. Records data, analyzes them, and shares research in lab meetings and in Rosetta conferences. Uses Python, PyRosetta, Rosetta, R, and linux.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or related field.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.
  • Laboratory experience who is aiming for graduate school and will also participate in the Rosetta Commons Post-baccalaureate Program.
  • While not required, we seek candidates with some combination of experiences in scientific or academic research, C++/Python/*nix/databases, software engineering, object-oriented programming, and/or collaborative development.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding of basic experimental design and laboratory safety.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Willingness to learn and master new experimental methods and strategies.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
