Advanced Academic Programs within Krieger School of Arts and Sciences seeks a LAN Administrator II who will work collaboratively on a team to provide IT administration and support for approximately 250 computers in a Windows environment.The IT Office for Advanced Academic Programs manages over 100 faculty and staff computers, over 100 classroom and lab computers, and maintains over 10 servers. The computers are hosted in a Windows Active Directory environment. The majority of our systems utilize a Windows 10, Office 365, MS Exchange platform. We also offer Apple integration and Mac OS desktop support. Technology services are provided to faculty and staff at two JHU campuses, which are located in Washington DC and Baltimore MD. The Lan Administrator II position is based at the Washington DC campus. NOTE: Travel to our other locations in Baltimore MD may be required, expected travel is approximately 4 to 8 times per year.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary provider of classroom multimedia support for evening classes at the Washington DC campus, and has a secondary role as primary IT support for resolving desktop computer issues for AAP.
  • Will assist faculty with classroom support, connecting computer and audiovisual systems with video conferencing solutions on a regular schedule to ensure a smooth flow of classes.
  • Will provide guidance and multimedia support to help faculty and students with using JHU software applications; setting up Zoom conferencing; and connecting to the JHU network and classroom resources.
  • Responsible for managing our domain computers and servers.
  • Responsible for enrolling user accounts and PC systems into Active Directory.
  • Installing and upgrade computer hardware and peripherals.
  • Install software, upgrades, and patches.
  • Manage file storage archives.
  • Troubleshoot problems and document solutions.
  • Provide desktop assistance and remote support.
  • Maintain a secure LAN environment.
  • Provide documentation of our systems, and offers recommendations and strategic direction in determining optimal solutions for IT support.

Minimum Qualification (Mandatory):

  • Two years of college coursework required; additional experience can substitute for education.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a Windows server environment using Active Directory, Windows 10, and MS Office is required.
  • Knowledge of MS Exchange email protocols required.
  • Position requires a detail oriented person with a proven ability to develop, document, and implement a stable Windows client/server environment.
  • Position requires three or more years of experience with administering desktop systems in a Windows Active Directory environment (direct related experience, or Microsoft certification may be substituted for education requirements). Additional education may be substituted for experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related degree is preferred.
  • Prior employment in an academic environment is preferred.

Special Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Must possess a strong background in information technology with a wide variety of classroom, desktop, and application support, and a proven ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Must be able to handle multiple priorities.
  • Work independently.
  • Exercise independent judgment.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Position will be responsible to develop project schedules, meet deadlines, and work as part of a team.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
