The Department of Nutrition Sciences (DNS), School of Health Professions (SHP) at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) announces a full-time 12-month tenure track Assistant/Associate faculty position with a teaching and research specialization in clinical and population health. Rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The faculty member is expected to teach nutrition education undergraduate and graduate courses, provide academic and leadership support to existing and upcoming educational programs, and engage in research service and scholastic activities that support the mission of the Department. 

 

UAB has historically been involved in nutrition and our Dietetic Internship program was established in 1963. DNS has robust programs in obesity, diabetes, and cancer, and sponsors two NIH research centers (Diabetes Research and Training Center, Nutrition and Obesity Research Center). SHP is one of the nation’s largest and most diverse schools of its type with more than 20 programs at the baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral levels. SHP is one of six medically focused schools in a thriving academic health center. UAB is among the highest tier of US research institutions, and SHP is currently ranked in the top three for NIH funding for similar schools.

 

Candidates must have a PhD in Nutrition or a closely related field, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), and at least one year of post doctoral training at the time of hiring. Experience in distance education teaching is preferred. Independent research experience in clinical and population health with an emphasis in health disparities research is encouraged and strong background in statistical methodology is highly desired. PhD applicants should show evidence of existing scholarly research with potential for external funding.
