Under the general supervision of the Circulation and User Services Manager, participate in the daily activities of the circulation/reserve desks in a highly automated environment, supervise student assistants staffing these desks, prepare materials to be placed on reserve, physically maintain library collections, and assist library users with a variety of reference information and technical questions. Education/Skills Requirements
High school diploma or GED required. Preferred: College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience Also required: Outstanding interpersonal, supervisory, and written and oral communication skills; strong customer service orientation and ability to work with a diverse group of people; excellent organizational and problem-solving skills; attention to detail; demonstrated ability to work in a highly cooperative, team environment; ability to balance multiple demands at an often busy public service point. Proven technical skills and use of a broad range of software applications. Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
One year of library, customer service or related experience. Demonstrated supervisory experience. Preferred: Experience working at a library’s circulation desk and with an automated circulation system; experience in supervising and training student assistants. Standard Work Days and Hours
36 hours/week during 38-week academic year. Saturday, 3pm-11pm; Sunday-Wednesday shift typically begins at 5:00pm and extends to 1:30am or 2:30am (dependent on library hours of operation). Hours will be M-F, 8:30am to 5pm when the college is not in session. About Bowdoin
