SUMMARY

The Director of Equity and Inclusion/Intercultural Center is responsible for three areas of student engagement: (a) a sense of belonging, especially for but not limited to students from underrepresented groups; (b) intercultural development for all students, especially through the ARISE program; and (c) assisting in creating and executing strategies to eliminate equity gaps in retention and graduation, as part of the college's commitment to the Moon Shot of Equity. The Director leads the Intercultural Center of Equity, Advocacy, and Engagement toward these three purposes, meeting annual goals defined in terms of metrics which measure the Center's impact. This work will involve connections, collaboration, and engagement with college departments and faculty. The Director of Equity and Inclusion reports directly to the Vice President of Student Affairs/Dean of Students and the department falls within the Division of Student Affairs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supervise the Assistant Director of Equity and Inclusion.
  • Lead the vision of the Office of Equity and Inclusion to support the programming, support and operations as outlined in these essential functions.
  • Design and coordinate programming and initiatives to support underrepresented student success, belonging, retention, and graduation, collaborating with, as appropriate, Athletics, The Center for Faith and Spirituality, The Center for Student Success, Student Involvement, and faculty and staff more broadly. Provide support, promote collaboration between cultural and identity based student organizations (ex: BSU, Mi Gente, Muslim Student Association, etc.)
  • Provide training and development programming for the general student body focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, especially intercultural development.
  • Provide training and development opportunities for student staff (ex: RA's, Peer Coaches, Orientation Leaders, Writing Center Tutors and Academic Coaches) and professional staff focused on serving underrepresented populations and personal development (ex: understanding implicit bias, micro aggressions, learning about race and identity, etc.)
  • Coordinate and facilitate Safe Zone training for the campus community.
  • Serve as a Title IX Investigator.
  • Lead the Bias Education Response Team (BERT.)
  • Support, as requested, Moon Shot for Equity initiatives undertaken by Moon Shot Program Owner (currently Vice President Abigail Hanna.)
  • Collaborate with Vice President of Students Affairs/Dean of Students (VPSA/DOS) and other institutional leaders on strategic community partnerships, that can support underrepresented students by creating opportunities for connections, experimental learning, mentors and career success.
  • Serve on the Student Success Team (Front-line cross functional retention committee.)
  • Measure and monitor the impact of programming, and assist with providing any needed student data for the Institutional Diversity Scoreboard.
  • Collaborate with Vice President of Student Affairs/Dean of Students to review and assess Division of Student Affairs practices and procedures for inclusivity.
  • Establish and maintain year-over-year metrics in collaboration with Institutional Effectiveness to show progress in the retention, graduation rates of unrepresented groups, as well as the elimination of equity gaps as it relates to Moon Shot initiatives.
  • Manage budget, assessment projects and annual reporting (year-end reporting, mid-year and year-end dashboards, quarterly board reports) for the department.
  • Act on behalf of the Dean of Students as requested (public engagements, withdrawal interviews, special projects, policy work, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION

  • Master's Degree in College Student Personal, Counseling or appropriate related field is required.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

  • At least 5 to 7 years of professional experience in campus programming, multicultural affairs, or related student affairs functional areas with an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion are preferred.
