Professional Writing Tutors in the CWAA work individually with both undergraduate and graduate students on a variety of writing activities across the curriculum. The primary role of the professional tutor is to provide writing support to specific student populations, including graduate students, English Language Learners, students with learning differences, or those who are referred by faculty for professional-level writing support.  

This is a semester-based, part-time (10 hours/13weeks) position. When not booked with tutoring appointments, it is expected that they will assist the director by developing writing support resources, presentations, and workshops for students.   

Professional writing tutors also teach one section of Introduction to College Writing, a three-credit course for first-year students who have completed the guided self-placement process. We are looking for compassionate, culturally aware instructors of writing who are good listeners and committed to writing and learning as a process. Experience working with diverse learners and students from underrepresented groups is appreciated.

Education & Experience

An MA in composition, rhetoric, creative writing, English Language Learning, or a related field and 2-3 years experience in a writing center or tutoring center are required.
