Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.
Faculty members are responsible for developing educational and evaluation materials consistent with the philosophy and framework of the program, MassBay Community College, CoAEMSP (Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for Emergency Medical Services Professions) and the MA OEMS (Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services). The faculty member is responsible for maintaining a current NREMT license and expertise in Emergency Medicince out-of-hospital care.
This position is responsible for program operation, assessment, accreditation, student support, supervision, leadership, community outreach and maintenance of internal and external partnerships.
This position is responsible for the coordination, planning, presentation, and evaluation of the EMS program. The program director/faculty member is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day and evening. At a minimum, the related activities include administration of the program and instruction; instructional counseling; serving on various committees; coordinating and/or participating in school-based community events and participating in local, state, regional, or national professional activities and organizations.
Key Responsibilities and Duties

- Maintain a full-time workload which will include teaching in EMT and Paramedicine Programs to include classroom, laboratory courses, and simulation-based courses;
- Work collaboratively with the EMS Clinical Coordinator to ensure clinical sites are meeting program and student needs;
- Prepare syllabi and develop curricula to address course and program student learning outcomes and graduation competencies as appropriate;
- Teach effectively in a traditional, hybrid, remote and/or online environment;
- Serve as an academic advisor to students and maintain office hours;
- Participate in College, Division and Program governance inclusive of attending Division, Department, Advisory Committee, and other committee meetings;
- Participate in assessment of course and program learning outcomes;
- Maintain a safe environment during skills training and evaluation sessions;
- Use technology effectively to communicate with students and colleagues and to enhance classroom learning as appropriate;
- Engage in professional development activities to maintain self-excellence and professional expertise in the classroom/clinical/simulation teaching to meet the needs of the students in the department;
- Maintain appropriate paperwork and documentation required by the program and accreditation agencies;
- Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Dean consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement;

Key Responsibilities of a Program Director / Department Chair
The program director must be responsible for all aspects of the program, including, but not limited to:
- T he administration, organization, and supervision of the educational program,
- The continuous quality review and improvement of the educational program,
- L ong range planning and ongoing development of the program;
- the effectiveness of the program, including instruction and faculty, with systems in place to demonstrate the effectiveness of the program,
- cooperative involvement with the medical director,
- the orientation/training and supervision of clinical and field internship preceptors to the extent allowable by the MCCC Contract and in cooperation with the Dean of Health Sciences;
- the effectiveness and quality of fulfillment of responsibilities delegated to another qualified individual.
- Maintain program accreditation through CoAEMSP and OEMS;
- Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for the instructor position;
- Instructing and evaluating students;
- Display and utilize current knowledge of the Massachusetts Statewide Treatment Protocols.
- Serve as the EMS program’s student/faculty liaison;
- Participate in the development and administration of the EMS budget; forecast and recommend funds needed for staffing, equipment, and supplies; monitor and recommend approval of expenditures
- Work cooperatively with the Dean of Health Sciences to coordinate the recruitment and selection of part-time instructors within the program;
- Participate in student recruitment and selection;
- Develop and provide assistance in the development, sequencing, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and educational materials used in the program;
- Actively support innovation, distance learning, simulation, student-centered learning strategies, and the use of technology within the teaching and learning environment;
- Developing and/or implementing long- and short-range plans, including plans for a new Health Sciences Center and the Associate of Science in Paramedicine;
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with appropriate community stakeholders in support of new program development and college improvement;
- Develop positive partnerships with State and National agencies that support emergency services education;
- Participate in or support the mentoring process, grant identification, preparation, implementation, and evaluation;

- Possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Have appropriate medical or allied health education, training, and experience,
- Knowledge about and evidence of teaching, methods of instruction, testing and evaluation of students;
- Have field experience in the delivery of out-of-hospital emergency care;
- Be knowledgeable about the current versions of the National EMS Scope of Practice and National EMS Education Standards, and about evidenced-informed clinical; and
- Current national registry and Certified NREMT – Paramedic and Current Massachusetts State certification at the paramedic level with appropriate instructor certifications, or the requirement to complete as a condition of hire; or Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, Physician (MD or DO) with two years’ experience in emergency care;
- Academic training and preparation related to emergency medical services at least equivalent to that of a paramedic;
- Maintain current health and immunizations for clinical clearance;
- Maintain Health Care Provider credentials such as BLS, ACLS, PALS level appropriate to teaching responsibilities;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to use a personal computer and associated peripherals and current version of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, Internet, and alternative delivery systems at a proficient level, embraces new technology and learns quickly;
- Working knowledge/utilization of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software applications;
- Ability to work well with others. Personal and educational philosophy compatible with the mission, goals, and objectives of the college. Demonstrated commitment to diversity. Demonstrated commitment to meeting students’ learning needs and empowering students in their learning endeavors.
- Master’s Degree or higher in any discipline from an accredited institution;
- Three years’ experience as an emergency paramedic with a progressive and active EMS Provider;
- Two years of administrative or supervisory health-based experience;
- Instructor/Coordinator Credentials;
- Experience with online instruction via a course management system such as Blackboard;
- Experience with national and state accreditations, such as CoAEMSP and OEMS;
- Experience in assisting, supervising, and evaluating instructors/employees;
- Experience in assessment of educational programs in higher education;
- Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
- Experience working in a diverse environment;
- Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students .
Salary Range: $65,000.00 - 71,000.00 Annual Salary
