General Statement of Duties:  Full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor to teach courses in Criminal Justice.  Areas of specialization are open, but preference will be given to individuals with teaching, research interests and experience in institutional and/or community corrections. The successful candidate will join a vital undergraduate program and participate in the Police Concentration Program that will award qualified students both bachelor's and master's degrees as well as Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Academy certification.

This position is governed by the Board of Higher Education, Massachusetts Teachers Association and CBA. Candidates may be reviewed at the Associate Professor level. This rank will require exceptional scholarly accomplishments, a Ph.D. from an accredited institution in the discipline to be taught and must possess six years of teaching experience with at least three years teaching at an accredited two or four year college.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching work load (24 semester hours of credit of instruction per school year), and preparation for classroom instruction.
  2. Instructional responsibilities include elective and required courses in criminal justice.
  3. Desirable subfield: institutional and/or community corrections.
  4. Provide student assistance, including but not limited to academic advising.
  5. Participate in curriculum review and development, program reviews, and student outcomes assessment.
  6. Attend university functions, including commencement; convocation; and faculty, committee, and departmental meetings.
  7. Participate in scheduled orientation and registration programs.
  8. Engage in continuing scholarship and professional activities, which may include contribution to the content of the discipline, participation in or contribution to professional organizations and societies, public service, and contributions to the professional growth and development of the university community.
  9. Opportunities to teach summer, winter term, online and undergraduate and graduate evening courses. 

 
Requirements:

  1. Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or Criminology, or in a related field, such as Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Public Policy or Sociology, with a focus in a substantive area of criminology/criminal justice. A J.D. alone is not sufficient for this position. An ABD may apply, but must provide evidence that the Ph.D. will have been completed by June 30, 2022.
  2. Expertise in any substantive area of criminal justice or criminology.
  3. Ability to integrate appropriate technology and software in teaching.
  4. Commitment to excellence in teaching, demonstrated teaching experience appropriate to the level of appointment, and evidence of scholarly/creative activity.  For an appointment at the associate or full professor level, substantial professional and higher education experience.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student body.
  6. Experience developing curriculum and course material inclusive of underrepresented groups is preferred.
  7. Evidence of serving, and/or research related to diverse, multicultural populations is also preferred.
  8. Ability to perform all duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
