The National Science Foundation is seeking candidates for the position of Deputy Assistant Director for the Geosciences Directorate (GEO). The appointment to this Senior Executive Service position will be on a career basis, with a salary range of $174,225 to $196,738.

The incumbent serves as a member of the leadership team and as the primary assistant to the Assistant Director in all aspects of management of the Directorate. The mission of GEO is to harness the collective efforts of the geosciences community to address the most compelling scientific questions, educate the future workforce for geosciences, and promote discoveries to meet the needs of the Nation.  The Directorate consists of the Divisions of Atmospheric & Geospace Sciences, Earth Sciences, and Ocean Sciences, as well as the Office of Polar Programs. These organizations provide the basic structure for support of both disciplinary and interdisciplinary research and education activities. The GEO Office of the Assistant Director (OAD) also stewards a funding mechanism called ICER to foster innovative Integrative and Collaborative Education and Research across all GEO program areas. In addition, a group within the GEO OAD serves Directorate-wide activities in diversity, international, and education activities. These units partner effectively with each other, with other parts of NSF, with other agencies, and internationally. Directorate activities include support and oversight of the development and operation of forefront facilities that enable research in all areas of the geosciences. The Deputy Assistant Director participates with the Assistant Director in the coordination and overall management of Directorate activities through the directorate's senior managers and a staff of approximately 180.
