Position Summary

The Senior Designer will be involved in all phases of design from concept to final delivery within the Marketing and Communication team. The ideal candidate will have a diverse portfolio that demonstrates the ability to excel in all phases of design work and an ability to work with collaboratively with a creative team. This role will encompass the ability to juggle multiple complex projects, manage tight timelines/deadlines, give and receive feedback objectively and have a passion for creative work. The ideal individual will have a proven track record of visualizing and communicating the College’s image in clear, inclusive, informative and engaging ways, and enjoy working on an in house team, partnering with internal peers and external partners and clients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Design Project Management

Creates high-quality, on-brand designs for a variety of marketing and communication materials, including print and digital deliverables. Listens to design needs, generates ideas, and creates concepts for campaigns. Handles day-to day projects including direct mail, ads, environmental branding, brochures, posters, presentations, logos and event materials.

Designs for website, or partners with other designers, to ensure consistency in creative work across print and interactive channels. Ensures College name and image is projected positively by external teams and vendors in accordance with brand standards. Maintains high standards of quality and brand alignment in all design.

Reviews the work of junior designers to give guidance and feedback and collaborates across the organization to drive up standards of creativity and design excellence. Prepares budget estimates for print projects, develops printing specifications and obtains quotes to award projects to vendors.

Tracks work accurately in project management system and adopts established project management methods and versioning protocols to ensure efficient collaboration among team members.

Keeps abreast of industry trends as it relates to design, marketing and communication channels, and associated tools, techniques, and platforms.

Marketing and College Events Support

Develops advertising and marketing strategies for College departments and coordinates placement of advertising in general electronic, media, high school publications and special events. Participates in creation of promotional strategies for College-sponsored events.

Building Partnerships

Collaborates with designers, writers, web and digital managers and developers, project coordinators, videographers, photographers and other marketing team members as well as cross-functional partners.

Assists Director in coordinating and soliciting designs created by third parties including freelance designers and designers at the College print shop.

Possess and exhibits leadership and critical thinking skills necessary to meet with cross-functional partners to gather information needed for requested projects and fill out creative briefs.

Exhibits creativity in incorporating partner, team member and self-contributed ideas and strategies and can articulate thought process behind launching designs created. May serve as liaison on College committees to provide expertise on marketing and branding.

Video/Photo Editing

Designs/develops of motion graphics for use online and in video. Shoots and edits photographs occasionally for use on website and in publications.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Manages multiple assignments of varying complexity and meets tight timelines and deadlines with the ability to adapt to changing needs of the College and business partners. Hours may include working outside of a normal workweek schedule as needed to meet workload demands.

Knowledge of: principles of graphic design; methods and techniques of illustration; elements and stages of design; preparation of exhibits and presentations; and use of graphic tools, equipment and software such as Adobe Creative Suite or other design software, Photo Shop, InDesign, Illustrator, ect.

Skill in: design of high-quality multi-media output; applying color theory and typography; maintaining project files; preparing materials for presentations; capturing images and taking photographs; present ideas in front of audiences and troubleshoot issues through resolution; excellent verbal and written communication; project management; organization; software such as Excel, PowerPoint, etc.; customer service; conflict resolution; general typing.

Physical Requirements

While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. The employee regularly stands and walks for extended periods of time, and occasionally sits. Employee converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts or exerts force of up to 25 pounds when moving files, boxes and other materials. With multiple conference spaces as well as meetings across the campus, employee regularly walks outside to other buildings.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, or closely related field. Five (5) years of experience working on an in-house creative team or in an agency setting. Expereience in Photography, Adobe After Effects, and Project Management preferred.
