The Department of Accounting and Finance at Washington and Lee University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Finance at the assistant or associate level (without tenure) beginning July 1st, 2022. The position requires experience teaching finance at the undergraduate level and a doctorate in finance or a closely related field. The successful candidate will be able to teach a required Managerial Finance course and elective courses in finance. Expertise in financial modeling is strongly desired. We value candidates who have industry or training experience as well as professional finance certification, though it is not a requirement. Candidates applying for the Associate Professor rank should demonstrate an established teaching and scholarly record in finance commensurate with the rank. Applicants for Assistant Professor should demonstrate teaching experience and an active scholarly research program in finance with a strong pipeline.

This position requires a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence in a liberal arts environment and values interdisciplinary approaches to pedagogy. The school calendar consists of two 12-week terms, one in the fall and one in the winter, and a 4-week spring term. The teaching load is 5.5 courses per year, with the half course most often taught every other year in our unique spring term. Faculty are also expected to have an active research program. To support faculty research agendas, the university has a summer research grant program, a generous five-year sabbatical cycle as well as a pre-tenure research leave program. The university subscribes to various databases including Bloomberg, Factset and several databases accessible within WRDS amongst various others.

  • A doctorate in finance or closely related field from a program accredited by AACSB by the start date.
  • Demonstrated experience and effectiveness in teaching finance at the undergraduate level is required.
