What will you do as a Cook 1?
You'll perform task and develop the daily work plan for the assigned food services area. You are responsible for daily preparation of specials and entrees, operating kitchen equipment, keeping accurate records, and overseeing staff and student employees. This position will monitor food safety and sanitation procedures working within a HACCP plan.

You will get to train student employees and work with other food service staff to create a trendsetting dining experience for our Ducks in a diverse, respectful and inclusive working environment.

We provide a collaborative environment with colleagues that value teamwork and customer service.

This is a full-time, 9-month, academic year position, with the potential for summer work within University Housing. Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Schedules may change based upon the operational needs of the unit.

This position requires the employee to make every reasonable effort to arrive at campus at their regularly scheduled times during inclement weather and/or university closures unless otherwise notified by their supervisor or manager. This includes times when the university may be closed. Essential personnel must provide reliable and current contact information at all times.

Work conditions and physical demands are typical of those found in the food service industry. These conditions may include slippery floors, extreme temperatures, heavy lifting and standing for long periods.

Special Requirements
  • Must have, or ability to obtain, a Lane County Food Handler's card within 2 weeks of employment. Onsite support available for those who need to obtain upon joining the team.

    Who are you? (Minimum Qualifications)
    One year of experience as a cook in a commercial food service facility;
    OR
    Possession of a Certificate of Completion in culinary arts and/or Foods and Hospitality Service from a certified community college or technical school One year of experience in a commercial food service facility (such as restaurants/bars, industrial kitchens, school cafeterias, grocery stores)
