We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual who is highly organized, to join the Goff laboratory as a Research Technologist who will help in developing and utilizing cutting-edge, high throughput genetic, genomic and computational technologies for the exploration of neural cell fate decisions during brain and ENS development. The successful candidate will support several current and future projects using high-throughput single cell genomic and transcriptomic assays, as well as spatial transcriptomic assays and will provide support for the Goff laboratory in ongoing research projects and general laboratory functions. After entry-level training under the general supervision of the faculty investigator, the individual will be responsible for performing routine molecular biology assays and contributing to general maintenance of the laboratory, inventory, equipment, and supplies. The candidate will also present summaries and quality assessments of data generated at regular intervals.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work on high throughput molecular biology: DNA and RNA purification, library preparation for single cell sequencing and spatial transcriptomics.
  • Develop and apply microfluidics techniques for gradient cell culture systems.
  • Analyze data using a variety of utilities, including Python, R and machine learning algorithms
  • Follow established procedures or protocols to perform experiments.
  • Work with large datasets will be required, and strong computational skills are desired.
  • Prepare solutions and reagents, order materials and supplies, maintain sterile ready-to-use glassware, keep inventories of lab stocks, and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Careful record keeping of all experiments performed and assessment of quality of data generated is critical.
  • Collect, record, organize and verify the accuracy of data; perform calculations and prepare charts, graphs and reports. May use software applications to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and test reports.
  • Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in Molecular/Cellular Biology, Developmental Biology, Neuroscience, or Biomedical Engineering.
  • A working knowledge of one or more of the above disciplines achieved through 3+ years of direct laboratory experience.
  • Formal coursework or laboratory experience in genetics, molecular biology, and/or neuroscience techniques would be highly desirable.
  • 2+ years of independent research experience or experience with NGS library preparation, PCR, RNA techniques.
  • Experience with microfluidics assay design, production, and application.
  • Prior experience with assay development and automation.
  • Basic command-line proficiency (e.g., working knowledge of Linux, Python, R)
  • Familiar with scientific software for analyzing and reporting data.
  • Have an eye for experimental details, maintain careful records, work independently, communicate clearly and be eager to learn new techniques.
  • Experience with single cell RNA-Seq, spatial transcriptomics, or microfluidic cell culture systems.
  • Programming experience or experience with linux systems and command-line utilities.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of molecular biology and genetics.
  • Ability to safely operate scientific laboratory equipment.
  • Must be highly collaborative, team-oriented.
  • Must have excellent communication skills to succeed in working with a diverse and inclusive team and assist post-doctoral fellows and graduate students by performing various investigative procedures and operating a variety of instruments and other scientific equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time.
  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
  • Finger dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm, for example, using a keyboard.

Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
