Job Summary:         

The School of Communication and the Arts at Marist College invites applications for a one-year visiting position, beginning August 2021, as a Visiting Assistant Professor/Professional Lecturer to teach undergraduate courses in Public Relations. The successful applicant will join a communication department and a school characterized by a strong sense of collaboration and community in which students are the central focus and faculty are both accessible and approachable. Applications should be submitted by July 31, 2021.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in the teaching discipline or a closely aligned field
  • Significant professional experience in public relations
  • Ability to teach effectively.

Essential Functions:

  • Integrate profession-based learning experiences into courses via field experiences, guest speakers, or projects that will lead to accomplishing course objectives
  • Meet with students outside of class time for additional instruction as appropriate
  • Teach undergraduate courses, especially the lower-level Public Relations foundation classes and/or upper-level courses in their area of expertise or the department’s introductory course in Mass Communication
  • Aid the Department Chair with program assessment and other projects that enhance the environment for students and colleagues.
  • Engage in a variety of service duties, including school and college committee service, curriculum development and assessment, admissions, and community/industry outreach. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher in public relations, media & communication, or a related field of study
  • Five years professional experience in public relations
  • Three or more years of teaching at the collegiate level with evidence of effective teaching
