Position Summary:

The Wisconsin 4-H State Youth Development Agriculture & Animal Science Outreach Specialist is an academic staff member of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension Institute for Positive Youth Development with a primary affiliation within the Wisconsin 4-H Program. This position will focus on engaging youth in high quality educational experiences at the local and state levels. Responding to evolving youth and 4-H program needs, the Educational Program Specialist will provide leadership to and coordination of key Wisconsin statewide youth educational experiences with a focus on:

1. Providing leadership, oversight, and support for Wisconsin 4-H Agricultural and Animal Science programs by working with 4-H staff, 4-H volunteers, and volunteer groups to plan, implement and evaluate educational programs and events.
2. Providing resources, training and content through connection to UW Departments and programs that support 4-H staff and volunteers in delivering high-quality, academically-informed Agricultural and Animal Science 4-H programs, and intentionally support pathways to access college and employment in these core program areas.
3. Serving as a liaison to external partners, such as fairs, the agriculture industry, local food producers, tribal food sovereignty programs, etc. to enhance resources available to youth and the capacity of 4-H staff and volunteers to deliver high-quality Agricultural and Animal Science 4-H programs that link youth to educational, entrepreneurial, and career opportunities.
4. Identifying and/or managing grant and other resource development opportunities related to Agricultural and Animal Science, including those that expand access to urban and other audiences under-served by 4-H programs.
5. This role may also support programming for Military Partnerships.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelors degree with significant experience in Animal Science required. Masters degree in a related field of study such as Education, Youth Development, Agriculture Science or Animal science, etc. preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

1. Three years experience in youth development programming
2. Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for youth
3. Ability to communicate effectively using a variety of methods and technology
4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and to provide responsive educational programs for people from diverse backgrounds, including those associated with race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other aspects of human diversity.

1. Experience developing and managing people in paid or volunteer roles
2. Experience in supporting underserved youth in rural and urban communities
3. Demonstrated experience using collaborative leadership to accomplish project goals, including the ability to convene and facilitate diverse groups of stakeholders

Additional Information:

1. Expected to make individual arrangements for transportation adequate to meet position responsibilities and essential job functions;
2. Work evenings or weekends as needed to meet program needs; and
3. Carrying educational equipment, up to 25 lbs.
