Africana Studies – Gender/Sexuality Studies – Critical Race Theory


Carleton College invites applications for a senior (tenured associate or full professor) position in Africana Studies to begin September 1, 2022. Candidates are expected to have the following: (1) A Ph.D. in Africana Studies, or a related field, (2) a record of distinction in teaching, research, and service, and (3) a commitment to theorizing from and/or centering the experience of Black/African descended peoples. We welcome applicants who demonstrate interdisciplinary training at the intersection of Africana studies and: Gender/Sexuality Studies and Critical Race Theory. Teaching responsibilities include introductory and capstone courses in Africana Studies, more specialized courses and seminars in the candidate’s areas of specialization and research, as well as advising student theses and independent research. We encourage developing courses on Black Sexualities, Queer, and Feminist Studies as well as Critical Race Theory. We seek applicants eager to serve as Director of our Africana Studies Program and those who possess substantial leadership qualities for developing the program. We desire candidates who can work to bridge disciplinary divides and expand Africana Studies’ impact at our small liberal arts college.
